Infiniti teases Q50, an update to the G sedan

Infiniti says it will unveil a new sport sedan, called the Q50, at the upcoming Detroit auto show. The model introduces the brand's new naming strategy, and is billed as a replacement for the current G sedan.

Typical for pre-auto-show teasers, all we get is an image of the new car's headlight. However, that shot reveals styling much different than seen on current Infiniti G and M models. Rather than the high lens of the current headlights, which mold into the pontoon-like front fenders, the teaser shows a hooded headlight topped by an LED strip.

The headlight design … Read more

Microsoft Surface RT vs. Asus Transformer Pad Infinity

It's a Prizefight punchout for tablet supremacy between the Microsoft Surface RT and the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity.

Microsoft is the new kid on the block, looking to conquer and take names later, while the Asus Infinity Pad is a battle-tested veteran that's evolved over the past couple years.

The Surface brings a fresh concept, positioning itself as a tablet that can replace your laptop. The Infinity Pad takes on the philosophy of being either a tablet or a touch-screen laptop, leaving the choice up to the user.

Epic's Infinity Blade sequel delay puts it in iPad 4 territory

The work-in-progress game title used to demonstrate the graphical power of Apple's latest iPad may not be ready until Apple debuts the iPad 4.

Infinity Blade: Dungeons, the top-down, dungeon exploring meets finger swashbuckling hybrid that Epic Games demonstrated live on stage at the third-generation iPad's unveiling in March, is now said to be in ongoing development, with no firm release date.

The reason? Developer Impossible Studios, which Epic put together in early August from former employees of Big Huge Games, has been "busy adding their great ideas to the game," according to an interview with … Read more

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ready for Transformer Prime, Infinity Pad

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime is the latest Android device to see its Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update, coming less than a day after Asus indicated it would be here "soon."

As is the case with every other Android 4.1 update, the Prime benefits from features such as Google Now, speed improvements, and enhanced notifications. Those of you who own the Asus TF201 tablet are advised to check the "About Tablet" section for a firmware update. Be sure to have plenty of juice in the battery and a good 10 minutes set … Read more

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 makes a good effort, but iPad is still tops

Anytime a major vendor releases a new tablet, I inevitably get asked the following question: can it take on the top dog? That "top dog" being the iPad, of course.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is the latest such device to get the "How does it compare with the iPad?" treatment. Let me break it down for you.

Well, the technology behind the S Pen stylus is really cool, supporting things like pressure sensitivity and palm rejection. This will no doubt benefit figure artists and even those who want a bit more precision when putting one person's head on another's body in Photoshop Touch. Ahhh, wackiness.… Read more

Top 5 Android 4.0 tablets

The Nexus 7 is the first tablet to ship with Android 4.1 (see above for details) and with its release imminent, I couldn't in good conscience update the top Android 4.0 tablets without including it.

So although the title states "4.0," think of it as "4.0 and above." Everyone cool with that? Cool. Cool, cool, cool.

I imagine this list will need frequent updating over the next few months as some big-name Android 4.0+ releases like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 are coming down the pike. For now, however, here are the current top Android 4.x tablets.… Read more

MIT invention promises more immersive TV viewing

Multiscreen setups for PC gaming aren't new, but MIT Media Lab's Infinity-by-Nine system may take the idea to a whole new level.

The system generates real-time blurred pictures of a video and then projects them separately onto three big screens (refer to the above image) using ceiling-mounted projectors. This visual extension of the original content is said to produce a more immersive viewing experience by relying on the reduced sensitivity to detail in users' peripheral vision. … Read more

Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 review: Infinite potential, limited OS support

The Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 is the Transformer Prime as it should have been. A Gandalf the White to the Prime's Saruman. Asus has clearly listened to the grievances -- most notably, GPS issues -- of some Prime owners and in most cases, addresses said grievances and then some.

The TF700 is more than just an upgrade to the Prime. It's also a chance to represent the full potential of the Transformer line. Check out the full review to see if Asus succeeds (despite the Android market's relatively paltry support for high-resolution screens and the Tegra … Read more

Hands-on with Madden 13 at E3: Kinect's killer app

Normally, a new version of EA Sports' Madden Football is an E3 non-event. Not so at E3 2012: in fact, it became a sort of poster-child for future-forward gaming.

Admittedly, the second-screen Madden prototypes on Xbox SmartGlass shown briefly at Microsoft's press conference aren't real (yet), but Madden 13 does feature integrated Kinect features and completely new player physics, dubbed Infinity Engine.

The most interesting part of the Madden's Kinect feature-set is that it doesn't use the camera: instead, it relies on voice commands as a way of controlling pre-snap adjustments on offense and defense. Joe Montana seemed to pull it off well during Microsoft's keynote, but I needed proof. I tried it in a relatively quiet E3 show floor booth, and it not only worked, but it could end up being a feature I actually use. … Read more
