Episode 24: Jawbone Up vs. Fitbit One

I've had a lot of great adventures producing Always On, but I've had a lifelong dream to see a space shuttle launch, and with this show, I got to get pretty close: I flew down to Cape Canaveral to watch the Falcon 9 rocket blast off with the Dragon cargo capsule on board. It was, as you might imagine, a pretty spectacular sight: and a pretty exciting start to the future of privatized space flight.

This episode also features another pretty awesome day for me: a spin around Ford's test track in the 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang. … Read more

Episode 13: the Nexus 7 tablet is a delicate flower

In the Season 2 premiere of Always On, the Google Nexus 7 takes a beating. Well, it wouldn't be fair to say it takes a beating. It receives a beating, and frankly, doesn't handle it very well. It's one of our more dramatic Torture Tests, and I think it points out that sometimes, you do get what you pay for when it comes to quality and durability. The Nexus 7 is a great tablet in many respects but, well. It's not the toughest little thing. You'll see what I mean.

2011 Ford Shelby GT500: Lighter, stronger, faster

At the 2010 Chicago Auto Show, Ford has unveiled the next Shelby GT500. But instead of just adding more power, Ford has also added a significant amount of lightness and efficiency, with a new engine.

Under the hood is a new 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 developed by Ford's Special Vehicles Team that makes 550-horsepower (10 more than the outgoing model) and 510 pound-feet of torque (unchanged). However, that new engine is now made completely of aluminum, resulting in a 102-pound weight reduction to the engine alone. Further weight savings in other areas result in a vehicle that is 120 … Read more
