Grill how you want to grill

Purchasing a new grill is a big responsibility. Not only do prospective owners need to consider style and size, but they also have to decide between gas, wood, or charcoal. These things matter, as each option provides its own set of benefits. But just because owners are faced with the choice doesn't mean they have to decide. One company provides options for all three.

Turn on the outdoor dishwasher

The backyard has long been a destination for expanding kitchen-related activities. Even the old saying, "everything but the kitchen sink," no longer applies to outdoor cooking areas; outdoor kitchen setups have had sinks available as options for quite some time. However there is one piece of the outdoor kitchen puzzle that hasn't yet made it into the design plans of backyard grillers.

The new outdoor dishwasher from Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet completes the outdoor kitchen. Unveiled this week in New York at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, the appliance will be available for purchase in summer 2011. … Read more

Watch while you bake the perfect pizza

There's just something magical about pizza. Somehow the simple combination of flour, cheese, and tomatoes has the ability to transform into a cohesive whole that is much more than the sum of its parts. Add in the fact that pies are easily customized with myriad toppings and a wide range of crust styles, and it becomes apparent that pizza might just be the perfect food. But the ability to create individualized pizzas by choosing favorite toppings and crusts is only half the story. Making your own and watching it bake completes the experience.

Gourmet closing makes Twitterverse sizzle

The bittersweet jokes write themselves.

Ben Huh, the CEO of funny photo hub "I Can Has Cheezburger," who has been known to show up at black-tie events with a giant hamburger hat on his head, on Monday offered via Twitter to purchase Gourmet, the seven-decade-old, high-end cooking magazine that will be ceasing publication in November as part of budget cuts at parent company Conde Nast.

Huh was probably kidding. We think.

The recent ax job at Conde Nast, long a symbol of print media's most egregious of excesses and more recently the ultimate case of a postlapsarian … Read more

Wake up to your favorite cup of tea

Coffee lovers have it too easy. In order to enjoy their favorite brew, all they have to do is head down to the corner. Chances are there will be a caf? on one of those four corners (if not on the way). For those that prefer to make coffee at home, there are numerous ways to go from bean to brew, and once a method (drip, espresso, French press, etc.) is determined, usually all that is required is finding a consistent grind. Not so with tea lovers, the magic in tea is usually unlocked by temperature and steeping time. Since … Read more

These platters and other pieces can go from fridge to oven to table. So I can arrange my salad, then serve it in a bowl that will keep it freshly chilled. Or I can set up my trays of hors d'oeuvres the night before, slide … Read more
