Samsung takes smartphone battle to the storefront

DALLAS -- Samsung has opened a new front in its battle for smartphone supremacy: the storefront.

The Korean electronics giant plans to set up mini Samsung stores inside all U.S. Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile venues within the next couple of months -- just in time for the Galaxy S4 launch. The "Samsung Experience Shops," which start rolling out Monday, will be in 500 big-box Best Buy stores and all 410 Best Buy Mobile locations by early May. Best Buy's remaining 550 large-format Best Buy stores will feature the shops by early June.

Verizon to sell Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Thursday for $600

The LTE version of Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 will be available at Verizon Wireless this week, expanding the Korean electronics giant's reach with its tablet.

The device will hit online and in Verizon stores Thursday and will cost $599.99 for 16GB of internal flash storage. That compares to the retail price for Wi-Fi-only versions of $499.99 for 16GB or $549.99 for 32GB.

U.S. Cellular adds Samsung 4G Galaxy Note 10.1 to its lineup

U.S. Cellular subscribers can now add Samsung's 4G Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet to their shopping lists.

As of today, the 4G Note 10.1 is available at U.S. Cellular retail outlets and the carrier's online store. The tablet sells for $499.99 when paired with a plan offering 2GB or more of data per month.

The Note is the latest Samsung 4G device to join U.S. Cellular's lineup. The carrier already sells the Galaxy S3, the Galaxy Note 2, and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and Tab 2 tablets get Android 4.1 update, new features

Today Samsung announced that its Galaxy Tab 2 tablets and Galaxy Note 10.1 would receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates. Samsung, rather than including only cosmetic or back-end changes that you'll never actually see, has added a number of useful-sounding (that's a Youtube video link if you'd rather not read any further) features.

Most of the new features, like improved S Pen support, look to only be compatible with the Note 10.1, not the Tab 2 tablets. This update is so far only available for the Wi-Fi versions of the tablets.

Verizon carries LTE Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 this month

LAS VEGAS--Samsung today announced a 4G LTE Verizon of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.

Almost identical to the Wi-Fi-only version of the Note 10.1, Verizon's model will arrive this month. Samsung did not make pricing available.

The Note 10.1 tablet comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Samsung's suite of productivity tools, along with the S Pen stylus that's chock full of artsy and productivity tricks.

Samsung launches Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE model

Samsung has released the LTE edition of its Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, but the model is available only in Korea for now.

Sold through three different Korean wireless carriers, the new tablet also offers VoLTE (Voice over LTE), which allows standard voice calls to be transmitted over the LTE data network.

Hit by lackluster sales for its Tab tablet lineup, Samsung has been promoting the new Note devices. The introduction of LTE brings the Note up to the level of the 4G Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The Royal Collection is getting its first tablet.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 was chosen as the Royal Collection's tablet by the Royal Commonwealth Society charity, the BBC is reporting today. The organization considered going with the iPad, but instead chose Samsung's device. Just because your music is from the really old school doesn't mean the way you read it has to be. That's the message behind the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra's decision to abandon its room full of paper sheet music in favor of the Galaxy Note 10.1.

Apple adds Android 4.1, Galaxy Note 10.1 to Samsung lawsuit

Apple appears ready to fire its legal salvo directly at Google.

In a move that could draw Google into the fray, Apple attempted to add Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Note 10.1 and Google's Android 4.1, also known as Jelly Bean, to an existing complaint against Samsung in California.

Apple made the argument to U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal today in San Jose, Calif., Bloomberg reported.

The move followed Samsung's own action to add the iPhone 5 to its own counter-claim that Apple infringed on its patents.
