Samsung launches Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE model

Samsung has released the LTE edition of its Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, but the model is available only in Korea for now.

Sold through three different Korean wireless carriers, the new tablet also offers VoLTE (Voice over LTE), which allows standard voice calls to be transmitted over the LTE data network.

Hit by lackluster sales for its Tab tablet lineup, Samsung has been promoting the new Note devices. The introduction of LTE brings the Note up to the level of the 4G Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Sporting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the LTE Galaxy Note 10.1 kicks … Read more

Queen gets Galaxy Note 10.1, not iPad, for Royal Collection

The Royal Collection is getting its first tablet.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 was chosen as the Royal Collection's tablet by the Royal Commonwealth Society charity, the BBC is reporting today. The organization considered going with the iPad, but instead chose Samsung's device. It's not clear why the Galaxy Note 10.1 was picked over the iPad, which, like it or not, essentially defined the tablet era we're entering.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 is the device that will house Queen Elizabeth II's "digital time capsule." According to the BBC, people from … Read more

Orchestra swaps sheet music for the Galaxy Note 10.1

Just because your music is from the really old school doesn't mean the way you read it has to be. That's the message behind the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra's decision to abandon its room full of paper sheet music in favor of the Galaxy Note 10.1.

Orchestra manager Gunther Broucke explained that the orchestra is always looking for ways to not only improve its performance, but also to be innovative. Organizing and distributing sheet music to the entire ensemble, it turns out, is quite a time-consuming process. Seeing an opportunity for a clear marketing win, Samsung donated to the cause 100 of its new Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets with special orchestra software installed. … Read more

Apple appears ready to fire its legal salvo directly at Google.

In a move that could draw Google into the fray, Apple attempted to add Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Note 10.1 and Google's Android 4.1, also known as Jelly Bean, to an existing complaint against Samsung in California.

Apple made the argument to U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal today in San Jose, Calif., Bloomberg reported.

The ongoing complaints show that the massively complex legal … Read more

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 teardown shows rigid, repair-friendly design

After cracking open Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 last year, I criticized Samsung for making the tablet feel flimsy and using tamper-resistant screws on the unit's back cover. Samsung addressed both my concerns in the 10-inch Note, but there's still one component that's tough to fix.… Read more

Latest rivalry between Samsung, Apple: Tablet margins

The tech world's version of the Hatfield and the McCoys has another battleground to slug it out for bragging rights. This time the competition turns on who can turn out a tablet computer with the fatter profit margin.

In their latest product teardown, the folks at IHS Teardown Analysis Service dissected the Galaxy Note 10.1 and found that Samsung could wind up with a better profit margin for its tablet than Apple could on the iPad -- but with one big "if": Samsung will have to be resist the temptation to discount.

James Franco takes the role of Galaxy Note 10.1 spokesman

It seems to make sense that actor, director, short story writer, and Ph.D. candidate for Yale's English program James Franco would be the new spokesman for Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1. The company is aiming to show that while Franco is a man of many talents, the device can also accomplish many tasks at once.

In a new TV ad for the device, which Franco claims to have directed himself, the actor is seen walking around his house using his Note to look up information with the touch pad, write down messages with the S pen stylus, … Read more

This week in awesome: Twelve 4-star gadgets and apps

I'd call this week the calm before the brewing Motorola/iPhone/rumored smaller iPad/Kindle update/Surface storm, but in truth, fall gadget winds are already whipping up. This week's Microsoft Release to Manufacturing of Windows 8 signals the company's final few weeks before a hurricane of Windows 8 machines blow into the market.

Storm metaphor too heavy-handed? I'll just cut to the chase: Seth Rosenblatt took a very close look at this final version of Windows (it's the code that ships to partners installing the OS on new computers) and made a call: It'… Read more
