Motorola won't update Charm or Flipout beyond Android 2.1

Motorola has decided to pull back on plans to update its Charm (T-Mobile) and Flipout (AT&T) handsets with Android 2.2 Froyo.

Of course, that means that the smartphones, which were released with Android 2.1 back in the fall, will remain on Eclair indefinitely. The handsets join a growing list of Motorola phones being left behind on older versions of Android. Most recently, the company decided that the Cliq XT would stay on Android 1.5 and never see features such as Google Maps Navigation or live wallpapers.

Motorola swivels around with the Flipout

Even though we heard about the Motorola Flipout earlier this year, we didn't know if it would be coming to the U.S. until this Tuesday when Motorola announced it would be available from AT&T. The square phone reminds us a lot of the Nokia Twist, especially because it swivels open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard.

In person, the phone does feel quite tiny. It's odd to see Android on such a small display (about 2.8 inches diagonally); it reminds us a little of the Motorola Charm in that sense. It ships with Android 2.… Read more

AT&T adds trio of Motorola Android phones

On Tuesday, AT&T announced the upcoming availability of three new Android handsets from Motorola--the Motorola Bravo, Flipout, and Flipside--pretty much doubling its Android offering in one fell swoop.

Motorola Bravo: With features like an 800MHz processor, DLNA support, and a 3-megapixel camera, the Bravo is the higher-end device of the bunch. It sports a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen with multitouch … Read more

New photos of AT&T's next Android handset arrive

Gizmodo has acquired a few new pictures of the unique, square-shaped Motorola handset that first popped up back in April. Although the details are light, this time around we're getting a glimpse of where the phone will land. If the images are to believed, the tiny MotoBlur smartphone will debut with AT&T in the near future.

Motorola announced a European variant of this phone back in June under the name Flipout. If you'll recall, the phonemaker has a history of releasing the same phone with different names, depending on the carrier. For instance, the Cliq is … Read more

Motorola Flipout makes official debut

We've already heard so much about the Motorola Flipout that at this point, the official announcement just seems like an informality, but here it is, Moto's newest Android phone.

Similar to the Nokia Twist, the Flipout sports a square design that twists open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. With its fun design and such hip colors choices as Licorice, Fairway Green, Raspberry Crush, Brilliant Blue, Poppy Red, Saffron, and White, the smartphone most definitely aims for a younger crowd and includes a new version of Motoblur software.

The Motorblur enhancements include:
