Flipboard lands on Android tablets

News-reading app Flipboard, already popular among Android smartphones users, is now available on the operating system's tablets.

Flipboard said the app, which will now work on tablets like Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1, GALAXY Tab series and Nexus 10, was "a top request from Flipboard readers around the world."

Eric Alexander, head of International Development at Flipboard, said Flipboard is recognizing Android's growing prominence. Although, iOS still dominates the tablet market, the purchase of Android tablets is on the rise.

Flipboard adds iBookstore perusing to iOS app

Flipboard, the mobile app that lets users see all of their desired news in one place, now supports books.

The company announced today that when iOS users download its latest update, they'll find that they can comb through 25 book genres, including fiction, nonfiction, and cookbooks. In order to deliver that functionality, Flipboard has incorporated Apple's iBookstore into its app and essentially acts as a conduit to help users find out about the iPhone maker's iBooks.

Flipboard celebrates year two with 20 million users

News-reading app Flipboard has 20 million reasons to celebrate today.

The app, which lets users integrate social media accounts into its feed and presents updates as news stories or blog posts, marks its 2nd birthday with 20 million users, 1.5 million of whom access the app daily.

The company has picked up steam over the years and now boasts a new Flipboard user every second, with users spending an average of 86 minutes per month on the app, according to its blog post.

Flipboard in deal to carry New York Times content

The New York Times announced late today it would collaborate with Flipboard to make the entire newspaper available on the popular social news-reader app.

Beginning Thursday, Times subscribers will have access to articles, videos, photo slideshows, and blogs produced by the newspaper from within Flipboard. Nonsubscribers will be able to read a limited sampling of the newspaper's content.

Nintendo goes big on 3D with 3DS XL

It's time to live large, change your fate and flip out:

Nintendo just ordered up a supersized version of the 3DS. Going on sale on August 19 for $200, the 3DS XL is 90% larger than the original 3DS. Nintendo could have taken this product in a new direction for gamers by using the extra space to add a second analog stick. But no, the XL has the same design as the 3DS. Flipboard arrives on Android

Popular news-reader app Flipboard has officially landed on Android.

In a blog post, Flipboard said the app is available for Android phones as well as for Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet and Barnes and Noble's Nook slate.

The Android version of Flipboard will come preinstalled on Samsung's Galaxy S3 phone from any of the leading carriers, Flipboard said.

Flipboard becomes prominent Google+ partner

Google isn't ready to open up a Google+ interface to just anybody yet, but it has done so with one important partner, Flipboard.

An application programming interface (API) lets third-party software tap into a service, and opening the Google+ API will let people use Flipboard to read and publish Google+ posts and to comment on those posts.
