Ferrari is in negotiations to expand its in-car entertainment partnership with Apple, the luxury-car maker's chairman revealed today as the company unveiled a car with Siri and two iPad Minis.

The companies will be "more precise" about their partnership in the coming months, Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo said today at the Geneva International Motor Show, according to a Bloomberg account of his comments. Ferrari, one of the iconic names in high-performance sports cars and Formula 1 racing, has invited Apple's iTunes' chief to join its board of directors.

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president for Internet software and services, said in a statement released by the Italian car company that he is "proud to become a member of the board."

Cue owns a collection of sports cars, including a Ferrari, according to people who were interviewed for a CNET profile on Cue that was published last week.

This year's International Engine of the Year Awards saw many repeats from 2011, but stealing the show was a new sub-1-liter engine from Ford. Using direct injection and a turbocharger, this 999cc engine manages to generate 123 horsepower, enough for most subcompact and compact cars. And in European test cycles, the engine manages well over 50 mpg.

Over the weekend of April 28, Ferrari hosts its Racing Days at Infineon Raceway in Northern California. The featured event will be the Ferrari Challenge, a one-model race with the 458 Challenge version of the 458 Italia.
