Should the iPhone 5 get a larger screen?

Last year, with all the new Android smartphones with 4-inch and larger screens hitting the market, I posted an article asking readers whether they thought the iPhone's screen was too small. In a poll, close to 50 percent of the respondents said, yes, they'd like to see Apple make the next iPhone's screen larger.

Now I'm getting some grief from readers after leaving out "larger screen" when I recently updated my piece on the the 20 feature upgrades I'd like to see in the iPhone 5, so I thought I'd better take … Read more

10 million Galaxy S phones sold, says Samsung

Samsung has sold 10 million Galaxy S smartphones since their launch in June, according to the company.

That means the Korean phone maker has reached its sales target for the Android-based phones, the company said yesterday in an e-mail to Bloomberg. The phones also helped Samsung boost overall sales and earnings for the third quarter.

Samsung hopes to double smartphone sales this year, driven by both the Galaxy S and the new Nexus S, according to Bloomberg.

Breaking down the results, the company sold more than 4 million Galaxy S devices in North America, around 2.5 million across Europe, … Read more

Judging by your comments on our Bing-Verizon article, most of you are not too keen on the fact that Bing will be the default search engine on some Verizon's Android smartphones, but here's some news that might warm the cockles of your heart.

According to Phone Scoop, Samsung Fascinate users will be able to download the Google Search application once Verizon releases the Android 2.2 update for the Fascinate. Be aware, though, that Bing will remain the default search engine, so when you press the dedicated search button, the phone will still use Bing. Still this is … Read more

Dialed In 142: Nice try, Dell

Look out Dell, Bonnie is not happy. Your Android smartphone, the Aero, recently passed through her hands and all she can say is that it's "unintuitive, slow, and limited in functionality." And don't forget that it only runs on Android 1.5. Fortunately, Samsung fared better with its Fascinate Galaxy S handset for Verizon Wireless, but plenty of people are miffed that Verizon replaced Google's search with Microsoft's Bing.

Outside of reviews, cell phone news is a little slow this week. Apple's iOS 4.1 update went live today, a few Android rumors … Read more

Buy-one, get-one offered for Samsung Fascinate

Verizon Wireless started selling the Samsung Fascinate smartphone online on Wednesday. To sweeten the deal for would-be buyers, the company is offering a buy-one, get-one-free deal.

Consumers looking to get their hands on two Fascinate devices will first need to buy one of them for $300 with a two-year contract. Upon doing so, they will receive a $100 mail-in rebate, dropping the price of that device to $200. Next, they will need to buy the second Fascinate for $100. That, too, will include a $100 mail-in rebate, effectively dropping the price of the second device to zero.

Quick guide to the Samsung Galaxy S series

By now, there's a good chance you've seen TV commercials for the Samsung Galaxy S like the one above, but unless you're a cell phone fanatic or follow tech news, the ad can be a little ambiguous. Is the Galaxy S one phone or a group of phones? Are all the carriers getting the same model and when will they be released?

Here's what you need to know. The Galaxy S was first introduced as a single model--the i9000, to be exact--at CTIA 2010 and later shipped to more than 100 wireless providers worldwide.

A night among Samsung's Galaxy S stars

NEW YORK--Samsung has taunted us for days about its upcoming Galaxy S series, sending out mysterious packages and even releasing the identities and destinations of these Android phones. However, it's one thing to read about these devices, but it's another to actually see them up close.

On Tuesday evening, Samsung hosted an event in New York to introduce the entire Galaxy S series with remarks from J.K. Shin, president of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business, and Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Telecommunications America.

The news conference was mostly a repeat of what we already know … Read more
