Fixed-lens glasses are so last year -- if U.K.-based company Eyejusters has anything to say about it, that is.

Eyejusters' "SlideLens" technology enables users to turn a dial on one of the glasses' temple arms to slide two lenses across one another and thereby adjust the focus. That just might help some of the world's estimated 670 million people who need glasses but don't have them manipulate their own prescriptions.

Sergey Brin was spotted this evening sporting a pair of Google Glasses, the augmented-reality specs the Web giant is working on.

Brin was photographed wearing a prototype pair of the eyeglasses while he posed with tech evangelist Robert Scoble this evening at a charity event in San Francisco.

Google is reportedly designing eyeglasses that could display information on the world around us.

The high-tech specs purportedly would tap into Google's cloud-based location services to convey details about the user's surroundings. The visual information would then appear as a 3D augmented reality computer display.

Known as wearable head-up displays (HUDs), the glasses are reportedly in the late prototype stage, says tech news site 9to5Google. The recently released biography of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs isn't the only thing that's selling well in recent weeks. Apparently shoppers are snatching up the tech icon's favorite eyeglasses too.

Sales of German-made Lunor Classic Rund PP eyeglasses have "dramatically increased," since Jobs' death. That's according to The Wall Street Journal, which talked to Power Bloom, a distributor of the $450 eyewear. A Power Bloom representative told the outlet that the numbers sold are in the hundreds, representing a spike from typical sales of that particular model.

It's costly when you have to regularly change your prescription lenses, particularly with heavy computer use leading to astigmatism. So the idea of adaptive lenses whose strength can be adjusted with a twist of the dial on the side is certainly a novel and inspired one.

That's the concept that Suning Chen from China came up for the "RE-think + RE-cycle" design competition organized by Designboom way back in 2005.
