Both Motorola smartphones will see Jelly Bean take control as the new operating system version as soon as next week, according to Verizon's blog. As a refresher, Jelly Bean offers enhanced notifications, Google Now, and a more intuitive keyboard.

Verizon is also using the update to implement a few carrier-specific changes to the Motorola duo. Gone are the Verizon Video app and Color app, making room for a new Video calling portal and Accessories app. What's more, the Droid Razr HD … Read more

Moto muddies the Razr HD waters

commentary I'm not sure I understand what Motorola was doing last week when it announced three Droid Razr models for the remainder of 2012.

On one hand, I get that an iconic company like Moto wants to show that it's still in the game. And I understand the benefit in giving customers choices. In this case, however, the number of choices is simply too much. While I see the value in both the Droid Razr M and the Droid Razr Maxx HD, I don't see a need for the Droid Razr HD.

Looking at the official specifications … Read more

Motorola gets new direction, lease on life under Google

Say hello to the new Motorola Mobility.

Motorola, which struggled as a standalone company competing in the cutthroat smartphone business, gets a second chance under Google, a parent with loads of cash and even more patience.

The changes start with Dennis Woodside, an ex-Googler who now runs Motorola. Under Woodside, the company reshuffled and brought on new key managers, shifted resources away from its basic phone business, and focused more on the smartphones it believes resonates with power users.

Today's announcement of not one, but three different Droid Razr smartphones -- Motorola's first as a part of Google … Read more

Motorola must believe that good things come in threes. Earlier today, the Google-owned handset-maker pulled the tarp off of not one, but three rumored handsets to extend its flashy Droid Razr family: the Droid Razr HD, the Droid Razr Maxx HD, and the Droid Razr M.

All three of the 4G LTE phones will start with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean by the year's end. They also feature an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording and playback, and a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. The trio comes with … Read more

Rumor Has It: Apple TV to be your next cable box?

You've probably heard the one about Apple and the HDTV it's reportedly working on, but have you heard the one about how the next Apple TV could double as a cable box? No? Well according to a Wall Street Journal report, that's exactly what's happening.

In other news, RadioShack reminds us that it exists by possibly joining with Cricket Wireless to offer no-contract phones, and a supersecret event invite from Motorola tells us, well, pretty much nothing. But we do have a couple ideas about what the event is for.

Thanks for watching, and don't … Read more

Presumed Droid Razr HD videos appear before vanishing

A handful of tips and tutorial videos for a Motorola XT926 landed on YouTube this morning only to disappear shortly thereafter. Widely considered to be the Droid Razr HD, the clips were the first semi-official look at Verizon's next Android smartphone.

Those who were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the five videos saw demonstrations of various features such as managing e-mail, Wi-Fi, messaging, and battery life. More tellingly, it also was a chance to peek at Motorola's ROM. As it appears, Verizon's next handset closely resembles the same UI as found on AT&T'… Read more

Mystery Motorola event set for September 5

Motorola just dropped a bomb of an invite that hints at the promise of sweet new smartphones. Scheduled for September 5, the press event will be held in New York and vaguely states, "Motorola. On Display," which is down right tantalizing.

Could Motorola's afternoon festivities herald the coming of a much-rumored Droid Razr HD or even Droid Raxr Maxx HD? Might Moto's new partnership yield fantastic nexus handset fruits? No product details were provided save a Motorola and Verizon logo, which lends weight to my Razr HD theory. … Read more
