Google Play surges, but Apple's App Store is still No. 1

Google Play is on a growth spurt, but Apple is still tops in app sales.

Over the past four months, Google's app store saw its daily sales jump by 43 percent across the 20 countries measured by analytics provider Distimo in a report out today.

At the same time, sales growth for Apple's App Store rose just by 21 percent on a daily basis. That's slowed considerably since January, when the App Store's daily sales growth was 51 percent.

iPhone app sales kicking app on Android Market, says study

Despite the growth of Google's Android Market, Apple's App Store is still the top dog among mobile app stores.

Looking at different app stores this past year, research firm Distimo found that sales of iPhone apps alone in Apple's iPhone App Store generated four times the revenue seen by Android Market. Sales of iPad apps in the App Store chalked up the second highest revenue total.

Study: Prices of top iPhone games keep dropping

As mobile application stores continue to grow in size, pricing among the most popular paid games software is going down, a new study has found.

In a new report by market research firm Distimo covering activity on various mobile app stores during the month of June, the group found that pricing among the top 300 apps in Apple's App Store has dropped 28 percent from averages taken the same time a year ago.

Study: Android Market sees lower top app turnover

A new study of various mobile application stores during the month of April conducted by research company Distimo found that the top apps chart on Google's Android Market had considerably less turnover than the one on Apple's App Store for the iPhone, which leads to less downloads overall.

More than 5 million iOS games downloaded daily

Apple customers downloaded more than 5 million games each day in March from the company's App Store, say market researchers Distimo and Newzoo, and that's just among the 63 million users tracked for a recent survey.

Apple's App Store remains the mobile-app marketplace king with the largest number of titles, but Android Market saw the highest growth last year, surging by more than 500 percent, according to a report released yesterday by Distimo.

Google's Android Market offers the largest share of free apps at 57 percent, while the Windows Mobile Marketplace offers the smallest share at 22 percent, says a report on mobile app stores released last week by Distimo.
