Ancient d20 die now available in 3D-printed form

When we first looked into the ancient d20 die from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it spurred a lot of geeky excitement. The only thing that might have been more fun would have been uncovering an ancient Egyptian Atari cartridge.

Readers quickly chimed in about getting a replica made. There were pleas for ThinkGeek to get busy on it, or for someone with Autodesk and a 3D printer to tackle the project. Cornerstone Gaming on Shapeways has officially made it across the 3D-printed-ancient-die finish line.… Read more

Dice Gauntlet puts unlimited rolling power on your wrist

Back in my day, we used paper and pencil for our Dungeons & Dragons games. Our fighters and clerics had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to attack a castle. Kids nowadays don't even have to use real dice anymore. They just wave their fists and let the Dice Gauntlet do all the work.

Sweet orc feet, but the Dice Gauntlet from Geekify is a brilliant idea. It's a leather gauntlet with a digital dice system built right in. You get both the tough "Game of Thrones" look and the convenience of two independent displays that can roll two separate dice at a time.… Read more

Top games to play with friends on smartphones

There are several games on both of my iOS devices at any given time from just about every genre. But there are only a few games I go back to on an almost daily basis and that's because they are fun, addictive, and a great way to keep in touch with friends and family.

These "casual" games are turn-based and require you to connect with a friend to start playing -- there is no single-player option with this collection. They have also been around for a while, but that's kind of the point: these are the games I continue to play because it only requires a couple of minutes to take my turn and send it to a friend. While it is sometimes a pain to go in and complete my turns (especially when life gets busy), the overall experience of competing with your friends and family is a good one and acts as a way to stay connected, even in our busy everyday lives.… Read more
