In this day and age, we have plenty of ways to remind ourselves of things; we can set alarm clocks on our cell phones, have Google Calendar send us e-mails or text messages, or use Outlook to get alerts on our desktop. The 404 Podcast 488: Where we now offer free Wi-Fi--with the purchase of a Happy Meal

This may be the last week of live 404 episodes for 2009, and it's also been the most hectic. With Wilson missing his second day in a row and Caroline McCarthy being bedridden by a holiday cold, Mark Licea and Bonnie Cha help me hold down the fort.

Today's show is all about giving, and McDonald's is jumping on board with the announcement that they'll be offering free Wi-Fi starting in 2010. Not sure the first thing we'd want to touch after scarfing down a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit is a laptop keyboard, but hey, free is free.

iPlayer gets iPhone support

U.K. residents with iPhones can do a little rejoicing after yesterday. Amid the wave of announcements surrounding the release of the SDK, the BBC quietly launched iPhone and iPod Touch support for its iPlayer TV service. We've blogged about this being a feature after footage of the iPlayer working on the iPhone was shown off in a promotional video made more than 10 months ago, but the videos on the streaming service use Adobe's Flash, which is not a part of the iPhone's built-in software.

'Do not deliver' list to scrap newspapers?

Tired of the free neighborhood newspapers that pile up in your driveway and end up directly in the recycle bin? So are some Maryland residents, who have apparently asked State Del. Tanya Shewell to propose a "Do Not Deliver" list that would run along the same vein as the national "Do Not Call" list.

Under the proposed bill, publishers who continue to deliver unsolicited papers after a person has requested that deliveries be stopped, would be fined $100 a day, according to the Associated Press. The publishers would be given seven days after the request to … Read more

Seattle gets groceries from the Amazon(.com)

Amazon.com has a new online grocery service for Seattle residents called Amazon Fresh. Users can pick from an selection of grocery items and have them delivered to their home, or one of the local "pickup centers." The home delivery options come in two flavors--a predawn delivery in a temperature-controlled crate, and a scheduled in-person delivery within a one-hour time slot of your choice. The service is in part the next step to Amazon's "Food and Grocery" section, which contains nearly everything except foods that require refrigeration.
