Operate Windows programs on Mac with CrossOver for Mac

Those who recently switched from Windows to Mac may have a collection of software that they can no longer use. For those unable or unwilling to purchase a separate Windows operating system license, CrossOver for Mac will run a limited number of popular applications well.

CrossOver for Mac is available as a free trial with a 14-day use limit, and the full version may be purchased for $20. The program downloads and installs quickly and there is access to technical support via e-mail, the responsiveness of which was not tested. The program did not have any instructions easily accessible, which … Read more

Hyundai debuts the new 2013 Santa Fe...twice

NEW YORK--Today at the 2012 New York auto show, Hyundai debuted not one, but two new versions of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe for two different kinds of crossover buyers.

The first debut was the Santa Fe Sport, a small crossover that seats five. Under its hood, drivers have a choice between either a 190 horsepower direct-injected 2.4-liter engine that should net an estimated 33 highway mpg or the turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter engine that outputs 264 horsepower at the expense of a pair of highway mpg. If these engines sound familiar, it's because they're the … Read more

Convertible Range Rover Evoque follows in ill-conceived footsteps

It wasn't the first convertible crossover to reach production, but I was hoping that the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet would be the last. Unfortunately, Land Rover will also be peeling back the top of its own Range Rover Evoque crossover at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show next week.

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible will feature a power retractable cloth top with a glass rear window pane. A Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) protects passengers in the event of a rollover by instantaneously popping up roll hoops behind the rear passengers when the vehicle senses that it's about to roll. … Read more

2013 Infiniti JX luxury crossover begins production

Production of the 2013 Infiniti JX, which offers the first backup collision intervention (BCI) system, is now in full swing in Nissan's Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant in Tennessee.

The 2013 JX gets 21 mpg and 20 mpg for the front-wheel-drive and intuitive all-wheel-drive models, respectively. The BCI system warns the driver if an obstacle is detected; the system gives visual and audible cues. It can also step in and automatically apply the brakes to help avoid a potential impact, Nissan said in a press release.

In another first, the seven-passenger JX offers a multimode middle-seat design that makes it … Read more

Ford's smallest engine finds home under hood of Indian EcoSport

Last year, when Ford announced its smallest EcoBoost engine yet, we fully expected the new mill to find its way under the hood of a Ford Fiesta. Turns out that we were only partially correct.

Today, Ford announced that it would be unveiling the all-new Ford EcoSport at the New Delhi Auto Expo. This small crossover--which looks like a ruggedized, upright version of the Fiesta hatchback--will be powered by the smallest of the EcoBoost family, the turbocharged and direct-injected, 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine.

Ford claims that with an output of about 118 converted horsepower (120 PS), this mighty mite of … Read more

Lincoln streamlines the 2013 MKS, MKT

LOS ANGELES--Lincoln hits the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show with a one-two punch, unveiling the 2013 MKS sedan and MKT crossover simultaneously.

The most prominent change to these two 2013 Lincolns is the new design language. Lincoln has simplified and restyled the waterfall grille into something that can only really be described as a windswept mustache. Twin grilles with vertical bars sweep back into integrated headlamps. Meanwhile, the front fenders and hood have been simplified with fewer creases and kinks. I think the MKS wears the look better, partially due to its more compact size. In either case, the result … Read more

Inifiniti teases the JX crossover on Facebook

Infiniti is giving its Facebook fans an early look at the upcoming JX crossover weeks before the official reveal.

The luxury seven-seater crossover will have its official debut at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 18. To build anticipation, the auto manufacturer is publishing a new photo each Thursday on its fan page. The Facebook page also includes a chance to win a trip for two to Pebble Beach for the big reveal.

Larger than the EX35 and FX35 crossovers, but smaller than the full-size Infiniti QX, the three-row crossover should compete with such vehicles as the Audi Q7. Parent company Nissan expects the crossover to be a large-volume production vehicle, and it will be produced at the Smyrna, Tenn. plant.

The production version of the JX will debut at the 2011 Lost Angeles Auto Show in November, and the 2013 model of the crossover will go on sale some time next spring. … Read more

AT&T reveals Pantech Crossover

Pantech has just revealed its first-ever Android smartphone for the U.S., the Pantech Crossover. The Crossover is designed as an entry-level Android phone for AT&T. It has a slide-out keyboard, a 3.1-inch display, a 600 MHz processor, a 3-megapixel camera, GPS, and it ships with Android 2.2. It will also have Wi-Fi and a mobile hot-spot feature for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices. While we're not sure if the Crossover is as tough as the Casio G'zOne Commando, Pantech claims the Crossover has a durable design with rubberized corners that should withstand everyday … Read more

Infiniti announces 3-row JX crossover

The 2011 New York International Auto Show starts tomorrow, but Infiniti is already looking forward to the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, where it will be unveiling the 2013 Infiniti JX, a larger sibling to its EX and FX crossovers.

Until the concept is unveiled, all we have is the sketch above and a few tidbits teased by the automaker. The large crossover slots in just below the full-size Infiniti QX and will have three rows of seats with room for seven passengers. Externally, the design language that featured prominently on the Infiniti Essence concept car should be stretched … Read more

Honda CR-V aging gracefully, still needs an update

When we last saw the Honda CR-V, we were behind the wheel of the 2009 CR-V EX-L 4WD with navigation. A little over two years later, we found ourselves spending a week with the new 2011 CR-V EX-L 4WD with navigation. Not much has changed for Honda's little crossover. Aside from a refreshed front end, physically the CR-V is virtually unchanged. Under the hood, Honda's engineers have been able to coax about 20 more ponies out of the 2.4-liter engine, but you probably wouldn't notice that without back-to-back testing of the two generations. Most heinously, the … Read more
