crossbow

A must-have for the would-be Robin Hood

It's not a Nerf blaster by a long shot, but this crossbow might provide a slightly more realistic experience than the Zapper if you're really into that sort of thing.

In this toy weapon's quiver is an arrow with a plastic ball on the end instead of an actual tip, which may disappoint the most avid fans of the free Wii game Link's Crossbow Training, though its laser sight should please the more maniacal among them. Not to mention that its $28 is more expensive than the Zapper, which comes bundled with the crossbow game, according … Read more

Wii Zapper: Hands-on review

If you grew up with a Nintendo Entertainment System in your house, then you no doubt remember the Zapper, the gray (or bright orange) light gun that let you shoot at ducks, bulls-eyes, and banditos. After almost 20 years, Nintendo has brought the Zapper, at least in name, to the Nintendo Wii. It's available in stores today for just $20, and it includes a free game, Link's Crossbow Training.

Instead of a light gun, the Wii Zapper is a simple gun-shaped plastic shell that houses the Wii remote and nunchuk attachment for use in certain shooting games. Simple, … Read more

Wii Zapper to include Zelda-themed crossbow game when it ships in November

When Nintendo announced the Wii Zapper back at July's E3 show, the company promised the $20 add-on would be bundled with a game (a "pack-in," in gamer parlance). And today the company made good on the pledge: The Zapper will include Link's Crossbow Training, a Zelda-themed target shooter. The game will progress from simple bull's-eyes to moving targets (including enemies from the Zelda series), and--while I wouldn't expect much more than a glorified "how to use the Zapper" tutorial--something tells me Crossbow Training could be as infectious as Wii Sports. Either way, … Read more

Windows Mobile 6 unveiled

Soooo, as things go in the tech world, this news wasn't supposed to hit the wires 'til Sunday afternoon at the 3GSM World Congress. But stories get leaked, people get all up in other people's business, and frankly, nobody can keep a secret these days. And Microsoft is certainly learning that today--but truth be told, this wasn't a well-kept secret from the get-go. The big announcement here is the (un)official unveiling of Windows Mobile 6. Codenamed Crossbow, it's the new mobile operating system from Microsoft that succeeds Windows Mobile 5. There will be three editionsRead more

A wind turbine for the backyard

No, it's not some kind of futuristic crossbow, though we would certainly understand if you thought it was. This weird-looking contraption is the "Loopwing Wind Turbine," a wind-powered energy source designed for home use and scheduled for official introduction at Japan's Eco-Products 2006 Exhibition. Treehugger says the device's wing design operates with "low vibration" but notes that the specs are vague--"43 percent power performance at optimum wind speeds," whatever that means. Still, we're reasonably sure it has more guts than the recently discovered wind-operated lamp.
