When you have the highest-rated MP3 player on CNET, I suppose it's OK to rest on your laurels a bit. iRiver's latest Clix, the Clix+, isn't much different from its immediate predecessor. It offers the same great D-Click controls, the same gorgeous AMOLED screen, and the same extensive feature list. iRiver Clix (8GB) now available
iRiver America quietly placed an 8GB version or their second-gen Clix MP3 player for sale on their Web site today. The 8GB Clix sports all the same specs as the 4GB and 2GB versions (audio, video, radio, voice recorder), but adds a snazzy new red trim to its edge. At $239, its a hard sell against the new $199 8GB Apple iPod Nano--but the extra $40 is a small price to pay for the Clix's extra features and superior sound quality.

The best way to silence one's critics
I couldn't help but comment on this news out of Australia that 2Clix is suing an online forum because a few forum members think 2Clix's products stink. The open-source world thrives on transparency. Not so with dear little 2Clix, which wants everyone to speak nicely about it, regardless of truth. Even in the proprietary world, this is extreme behavior.
The problem with such vendor-defined truth is that, well, it's often not very truthful. Dialogue is actually helpful for establishing such truth and motivating purchase decisions. Apparently, 2Clix can't see this.

OK, so I get the iMac, the iBook, the iPod, iTunes, and even (grudgingly) the iPhone. Apple thought up the moniker, so we can't begrudge them for expanding on the very successful franchise.
