According to AllThingsD, Rowghani is known for multi-tasking at the social network and contributing to Twitter's Promoted Suite of ad products.

Mike Gupta moved into Rowghani's former position after working as the … Read more

AMD CFO Thomas Seifert resigns, sending stock down 8 percent

Advanced Micro Devices announced the resignation today of Chief Financial Officer Thomas Seifert, sending the company's stock down 8 percent.

Seifert, who had been with the chipmaker for three years, had briefly served as the company's interim chief executive officer last year after the resignation of CEO Dirk Meyer in January 2011. Seifert returned to his position as CFO in August 2011 when AMD named Rory Read, the former president and chief operating officer of the Lenovo Group, as its new CEO.

Other than the standard statement that Seifert was leaving "to pursue other opportunities," AMD … Read more

Verizon CFO: We expected the next iPhone sooner

Verizon Communications Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo acknowledged today that he doesn't really know what will happen once the next version of the iPhone comes out, but said he had expected it to launch sooner.

While the iPhone 4 has been a successful draw for Verizon, the company expects a much larger boost when the next version arrives at the same time for both it and AT&T. The impact of the new Apple device will be a positive, but it's still unclear how much of a catalyst it will be. Partly due to high expectations for … Read more

Catz returns to CFO seat at Oracle

AllThingsD

Software giant Oracle said that co-President Safra Catz will take over as chief financial officer following the resignation of Jeff Epstein, who had reported directly to Catz. This will be her second stint as Oracle's CFO. She held the position from November 2005 to September 2008.

"Safra already has the long-standing confidence of our employees, our board and our shareholders," Oracle CEO Larry Ellison said in a company statement. "There is no more logical choice for CFO." She joined Oracle in April of 1999, started serving as director in 2001 and became a president in … Read more

Apple denies it's searching for new CFO

Apple is denying reports that the company is searching for a new chief financial officer.

According to a report published today by Bloomberg, Apple approached Blackstone Chief Financial Officer Laurence Tosi to take over the role from Peter Oppenheimer. Apple says that's not the case.

"Peter is not leaving Apple. We are not conducting a CFO search," Apple spokesman Steve Dowling told CNET.

Bloomberg cited sources "who asked not to be identified because the talks were private."

Oppenheimer replaced Fred Anderson as Apple's CFO in 2004, when Anderson retired from the company. Anderson was … Read more

CFOs start to see the benefits of open source

CFO Magazine is running a great story about the cost savings available from open-source software. This is a topic that you'll hear open-source vendors crow about, but it's somewhat rare to actually get a CFO on the record about her benefits from open source, so it's notable.

Recent Gartner research suggests that over 27 percent of enterprises will deploy open-source software in 2009. (Note: the remaining 63 percent will, too, but Gartner must have asked the CIO, and the CIO is the last to know.) That's up from 25 percent in 2008, while the share of … Read more

CFO survey: 57 percent see adequate returns on IT

Maybe IT doesn't matter, after all. At least, not as much as it should.

A recently released survey of chief financial officers and their views on technology spending found that roughly 57 percent say they are getting an acceptable return on investment (ROI) from their tech spending. Lest you think that the CFOs are too distant from the chief information officer to have a true grasp on ROI, keep in mind that the survey found that 41 percent of organizations have CIOs reporting to CFOs. The Computer Sciences Corporation conducted the annual survey of 629 CFOs in association with the Financial Executives Research Foundation.

Other data from the "Technology Issues for Financial Executives" study was equally interesting:

Among those surveyed, IT spending has increased over the last three years, and is expected to grow in 2008, as well. Greater than 50 percent suggest medium to high ROI on technology investments but only 11 percent reported a "high" ROI.… Read more

Intel's Andy Bryant gets promoted, in a sense

One tidbit mentioned during Intel's blowout third quarter was the promotion of long-time Chief Financial Officer Andy Bryant to something called "chief administrative officer."

Bryant has been the CFO at Intel for 13 years and will step up to his new title effective immediately, so that Stacy Smith can become CFO in a move planned for some time, said Tom Beermann, an Intel spokesman. The move frees Bryant up from the day-to-day responsibilities of running Intel's finances, which is actually a quite-complicated exercise of making sure Intel's factories are running at optimum capacity in order … Read more
