The exclusive iPhone 4S club isn't so hard to get into after all.

Regional carrier C Spire Wireless, formerly known as Celllular South, said it will be offering Apple's latest iPhone in coming weeks. Exact timing and pricing information wasn't yet available.

AT&T fired back at Sprint Nextel and Cellular South, the two companies that have sued to block AT&T's planned acquisition of T-Mobile USA.

The Dallas telecommunications giant filed two motions today seeking to dismiss the complaints filed by Sprint and Cellular South.

AT&T's argument is that Sprint and Cellular South are competitors, and lack the legal standing to file a complaint, and that Sprint's secondary complaint about the deal's effect on wholesale pricing for access to the wireline ground infrastructure is immaterial.

The largest cell phone carrier you may never have heard of is about to get a makeover. Starting next Monday, September 26, regional operator Cellular South will be known as C Spire Wireless.

The company doesn't explain the reasons behind the name change on its landing page, but it elaborates more in a press release (PDF) and fact sheet (PDF). According to the release, it's all about offering a personalized customer experience in which customers will see "services that anticipate their needs, and rewards they'll get just for using their phone in new ways." Read into that as you wish.

Among the new features that the carrier will offer are an optimized and personalized app service ("Scout"), customer loyalty rewards ("Percs"), a more intimate customer service effort ("Circle"), customized service plans with "infinite data" ("Pulse"), converged services between your living room and phone, and a fancy new Web site.

Cellular South's Android lineup is set to grow by one more now that the Samsung Admire has landed on the carrier's Web site. Though it stops short of officially announcing the handset, the wireless provider gives us a handful of specifications and images for its first Gingerbread device.

The Admire will feature a 3.5-inch touch screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera, and support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Additional details include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD expansion port, live 3D wallpapers, and DVD-quality video playback.

With a filing at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) today, AT&T's proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile is now in the hands of federal regulators.

Cellular South announced today that it will be among the first carriers in the United States to offer the HTC Merge. Officially introduced back in late February, the Merge is HTC's first dual-mode CDMA/GSM handset to run Android.

Even without a full review, there's a lot to like about the Merge. It features HTC's Sense UI with Android 2.2, a full sliding QWERTY keyboard, a 3.8-inch touch screen, and a 5-megapixel camera capable of recording HD video. What's more, the HTC Merge will be the first device to launch with Amazon.com's new Android app store preloaded on the device.

It seems that almost every carrier in the U.S. has a Samsung Galaxy S handset now. Cellular South has recently announced that it, too, will carry a Samsung Galaxy S phone after Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular. Unlike those five, though, Cellular South will retain the original Galaxy S look and feel that is closest to its global counterpart.

LTE received another teammate in the tug-of-war between WiMax and 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology yesterday when Cellular South announced its intentions today to build out a 4G mobile broadband network.
