Mobile gamers were pretty sweet on Candy Crush Saga this year.
The puzzle game was the No. 1 most downloaded free app for the iPhone and iPad in 2013, according to Apple's Best of iTunes list. It was also the No. 1 paid app for the iPad, while Minecraft was the No. 1 paid app for the iPhone.
Apple's list, released Monday evening, also includes year-end top 10 charts for most downloaded or purchased songs, albums, books, movies, TV shows, and podcasts, as well as Apple's picks of best of the year for each category.

Facebook is tops among mobile users, at least based on the results of a recent survey.
In a report released Wednesday, research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners asked mobile phone users for the names of the three apps they use most frequently. Facebook scored the top spot, ranked by 45 percent of those polled. Twitter came in second at 13 percent, followed by Candy Crush at 11 percent.

Like Twitter, UK-based King, makers of the smash hit Candy Crush Saga, has secretly filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to go public, according to the Telegraph.
King used the provision in the JOBS Act that allows smaller companies with less than $1 billion in annual sales to start the IPO process confidentially. The games maker is expected to list its shares on the Nasdag with a valuation exceeding $5 billion, the Telegraph reported. King, the creator of hit game Candy Crush Saga, is killing some of its earlier titles to save the resources for more popular games, the developer informed players Monday.
The games include Miner Speed, Hoop de Loop Saga, Bubble Saga, Puzzle Saga, and King Gold Games. These games, which "never really got off the ground or have since lost traction with players," according to a King spokesperson, will go dark on September 10.
