Let Google eat cake. Today, the Web giant turns 14 years old, and to celebrate, it's serving up an animated chocolate cake filled with Google-colored candles on its homepage.
It seems like just yesterday that the tech company was born, and now it's old enough to go to high school.
Last year when Google officially became a teenager, it celebrated with a doodle that showed a cake, some balloons, candles, and a few party hats -- but it wasn't animated. Apparently, this year it has upped its sophistication.
Google Doodles are an integral part of the company's Web design. … Read more
You could spend $30,000 on a life-size "Game of Thrones" Iron Throne replica crafted from the swords of your fallen foes, but it has one big drawback besides the price. It's not edible.
A Redditor posted photos of a "Game of Thrones" cake a friend's mom made. With a Reddit handle like Craptacularama, you know it's got to be good. It's not just good, it's spectacular.… Read more
Redditor pat_inthehat has an aunt who makes weddding cakes. That in itself is pretty cool, but his rocking aunt recently made a Borg cube wedding cake, complete with small starships and lights. Yes, lights!
The cake comes from the Sugarplum Cake Shoppe in Colorado Springs, Colo. That's a sweet name for a bakery that has embodied one of the deadliest, most unrelenting, and dark enemies from the "Star Trek" universe in cake form.… Read more
Michigan State Police have deputized a new sort of law enforcement officer in the fight against drunk driving. Talking urinal cakes are now in residence in bars and restaurants around the state.
The cakes have a motion-activated audio track where a lady tells the restroom user, "Hey! Listen up. That's right. I'm talking to you. Had a few drinks? Maybe a few too many. Then do yourself and everyone else a favor. Call a sober friend or a cab. Oh, and don't forget. Wash your hands."
"Not only do we want to turn some heads and get people talking, we hope everyone takes the message to heart," said Michael L. Prince, director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, in a statement about the project.… Read more
This week, we have a giant NES controller perfect for Donald's purely hypothetical furry party. In Geek news, Eric confesses that Star Wars: The Old Republic may be his new World of Warcraft.

A long time ago (not really), in a galaxy far, far away (Boston), attendees to the Arisia sci-fi convention got revenge on the Evil Empire by tearing into a life-size Stormtrooper cake.
Though geek-inspired cakes aren't new, we imagine creating a 6-foot, 300-pound sugary replica of a Stormtrooper wasn't an easy task, so we had to find out more.
Crave caught up with Amanda Oakleaf, founder and co-owner of Amanda Oakleaf Cakes, to ask about the highs and lows of building the Stormtrooper dessert. (Seriously, where does one even start?) … Read more
While the consumer technology industry nursed its post-CES hangovers this weekend, 600 Star Wars fans in Boston were nursing something else: Stormtrooper cake!
Attendees at this year's Arisia sci-fi convention were treated to a "life-size" 6-foot Stormtrooper cake. Of course, if the second trilogy is to be believed and they're all clones of "Once Were Warriors" actor Temuera Morrison, they'd all be 5 foot 7 inches...but anyhoo.
This Stormtrooper, in a classic Mos Eisley "Stop!" pose, was created by Oakleaf Cakes and consists of 300 pounds of frosting, cake, and … Read more
Who needs to bother with a fitting room when you can use a Kinect to model outfits?
Between pitches for mobile payments, new self-checkout machines, and virtual customer service assistants, technology rules the show floor at the 101st Annual National Retail Federation Convention and Expo in New York, taking place this week.
This year it's possible to try on a new dress -- with matching purse, belt and jewelry -- in just a few seconds using a Microsoft Kinect camera. You become a paper doll on the television monitor with FaceCake's Swivel, a virtual dressing room that will … Read more
Looking at a sugar-glazed confection might lead one to ask how it could be bad for you when it looks so good. Putting temptations aside, another question one might ask is just how such treats are formed.
The answer, at least in the case of the Bella Cucina Fluted Cake Maker, simply has to do with batter poured into a mold and then cooked. This specialty electric appliance creates five cakes, each with a distinctive design.
Combining a mold and a cooking appliance allows for instant gratification. Clamshell-type countertop appliances tend to heat up quickly and this 1,400-watt gadget … Read more
