Sony prepping Bloggie camcorder with Wi-Fi

Sony's Bloggie cameras have some compelling features, with current models touting offerings such as a touch screen, 3D video and photo capture, and two LCD screens.

A recent FCC filing confirms that a new Bloggie model, the MHS-TS55, is set for a reveal with a feature previously unseen in Sony's portable HD camcorders: 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. … Read more

iFixit CEO strips a Sony Bloggie 3D, bares its twin cameras

So, Sony got iFixit.com CEO Kyle Wiens to do a teardown of the new Bloggie 3D minicamcorder. Usually, I like a good teardown, but this one is sofa-king boring. Why? Because one of the best parts of iFixit.com's product teardowns is finding out the manufacturers of all the individual components. Of course, that doesn't happen here.

Instead, we just get an eyeful of all the bits and pieces that go into making this pocket 3D video camera. There's a brief look at Kyle stripping it down, but mostly it's just all the parts laid out and some close-up looks at them. Oh, and a healthy dose of sneaky marketing to let you know why the Bloggie 3D is so worth $250.… Read more

First impressions: Sony Bloggie Touch

Flip Video may have been the first out of gate with a touch-screen pocket video camera, but Kodak, Samsung, JVC, and now Sony have followed--all with more compelling packages than Flip's offering. Sony's new Bloggie Touch features a snappy 3-inch touch-screen LCD, an f2.8 lens with auto macro, and full hd 1080p-resolution recording at 30 frames per second.

Sony's past minicamcorders have had "youthful" designs, came in multiple color options, and the devices and packaging were typical of mass-produced electronics--loaded up with stickers, bits of paper, and software discs. The Bloggie Touch, however, has … Read more

Is Sony's Bloggie HD MHS-CM5 a pocket camcorder contender?

So far, Sony hasn't done too well in the fast-growing cheap pocket camcorder space dominated by Flip Video, characterized by candy bar vertical camcorder designs and prices ranging from $150 to $250.

After an initial flop with the poorly named NSC-GC1 Net-sharing camera a few years back, Sony redubbed its pocket camcorder line to the also poorly named "Webbie." That move fell flat, and now it's now moved on to the marginally less poorly named "Bloggie" and returned one of the models to the pistol-grip design of yesteryear, which remains popular with small, zooming … Read more

Sony replaces Webbies with 'bloggies,' seriously

I remember groaning when Sony introduced us to its Webbie branding for MPEG-4 camcorders last year; this year's redubbing them as "bloggie" (complete with lower case "b") leaves me dumbfounded. Sony says the target audience for these models is 16-28-year-olds and moms aged 25-40; I guess those demographics must be intimidated by products with names that end in consonant sounds, or they don't realize that blogs live on the Web. If anyone out there can tell me why "bloggie" might succeed where "Webbie" implicitly failed, please have at it in … Read more
