BenQ's Joybee GP2 mini projector gets cozy with iPhone

BenQ's Joybee GP2 LED mini projector looks a lot like its predecessor, the GP1, but there are a couple of big enhancements.

For starters, while the housing's the same, the $549.99 GP2 integrates an iPhone/iPod dock, which is a big deal. It also features 1,280x800-pixel (WXGA) resolution and native support for 720p video.

BenQ also says that it has improved the interface and now offers an optional battery pack that will power the unit for 3 hours at half brightness (100 lumens) or 1 hour at full brightness. Two built-in 2-watt speakers deliver sound, and … Read more

BenQ markets new affordable HD projectors to 'high-rise' dwellers

BenQ has started shipping two new HD DLP "cinema" projectors, the W1100 and W1200, that it says are ideal for "high-rise" dwellers. We're not exactly sure what makes them ideal for multidwelling (MDU) media rooms, but the projectors, which cost $1,199 and $1,499 respectively, do offer 1,080p resolution, a 12-lens optical system, and built-in dual 10-W speakers with SRS Wow HD sound technology.

The W1100 is a 2,000-lumens (brightness) projector with a 4,500:1 contrast ratio and a full 10-bit color processor. Meanwhile, the step-up W1200 is a 1,800-lumens … Read more

BenQ EW2420 gets away with low price (review)

The BenQ EW2420 is the first monitor I've reviewed to feature the rare combination of an LED backlight and an AMVA (Advanced Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment) panel.

Since I was made privy to the monitor's existence, I've been very curious as to what kind of performance I'd be seeing.

AMVA-based monitors purportedly feature higher contrast ratios than even other MVA monitor types. I knew that going into the review, but I wasn't prepared for exactly how high.

Thanks to its incredibly low black level, which averaged at about 0.04 candelas per square meters, we saw … Read more

BenQ business monitor houses VA panel

LAS VEGAS--Business monitor announcements are never very exciting, but to its credit, BenQ does its best with this one.

BenQ introduced today its BL series of monitors. Targeted toward business users, the monitor will come in 19-, 22-, and 24-inch sizes.

The monitor will feature what BenQ is calling the Automatic Eye-Protect Sensor, which I'm guessing translates to ambient light sensor, but I can't be 100 percent sure on that.

It also includes an "ultra-flexible" adjustable height stand, which, you know, makes me really curious as to just what that means. A 1920x1080-pixel resolution and Vertical … Read more

The 27-inch BenQ is big on features, (relatively) low on price

You'd think monitor vendors would include speaker bars on more monitors than they currently do. Speaker bars are a relatively cheap way to add value to your monitor and appeals to that part of us that values quantity over quality when buying electronics equipment.

That's the part that says, "Nice! And it comes with a speaker bar. I don't care if it sounds like a snake is hissing inside my monitor and all times! It comes with something that makes me feel better about spending more than $300 in the first place!" Or something to … Read more

BenQ's LED-based monitor aims at the king

With the release of the Samsung PX2370, other monitor vendors can no longer rely on the novelty of an LED backlight. With the PX2370, Samsung proved (once again) that it's possible to manufacture a legitimately great-performing LED-based monitor with a thin profile.

Other vendors are still playing catch-up, unfortunately. We've seen many new LED releases over the past several months, but none have come close to matching Samsung's offerings. This week, we take a look at BenQ's V2420H, a new LED-based monitor that follows all the expected tropes: a thin panel, sleek design, minimalist interface.

Grow a garden in BenQ's LED monitor

LED monitors were the new hotness at CES last January, but it wasn't until the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 debuted that we really started to believe in them.

That was the first monitor that really seemed to live up to what LED monitor manufacturers' have promised.

That was the first monitor that really seemed to live up to what has been promised by LED monitor manufacturers'.

That monitor was followed by several more that, while not as impressive as the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370, were still good, solid monitors--like the LG W2486L and AOC V22.

BenQ's LED-based Eco displays

More than a year ago, I reviewed the BenQ V2400W and remarked about its unique and aesthetically pleasing design. BenQ must have felt the same way.

On Wednesday, BenQ announced a new line of LED-backlit monitors that hearken back to the company's V2400W model. The 24-inch V2400 Eco and 21.5-inch V2200 Eco look to be LED versions of the V2400W, albeit with a stark white chassis. Each monitor sports a native resolution of 1,920x1,080.

According to BenQ, both LED models offer "zero light leakage" enabling an ultra-high dynamic contrast ratio of 5 million:1. … Read more
