The recent actions of security software icon John McAfee may have seemed off kilter, but he now says that at least some of that was a ruse.

McAfee, speaking with ABC News after arriving in the U.S., said he faked illness to avoid being sent back to Belize from Guatemala. He also thanked the media for closely covering his story.

Guatemala to deport McAfee to U.S., says report

After weeks of running from authorities in Belize, tech businessman turned fugitive John McAfee will come back to the United States, Reuters reported today.

Update, 4:30 p.m. PT: McAfee has landed in the U.S., according to the Associated Press.

McAfee was detained in Guatemala last week after illegally crossing over the border from Belize, and the Guatemalan government has decided to deport him to the U.S., an immigration official told Reuters.

McAfee told Bloomberg TV that he was "being expelled" from Guatemala and was headed to Miami.

It's still a mystery where John McAfee will eventually land, but his life story is destined for the small screen.

Currently in custody in Guatemala and fighting deportation efforts that could return him to Belize to face questions about a murder, the antivirus-software pioneer has signed a deal that gives the rights to his life story to a Montreal-based TV producer.

Antivirus-software pioneer John McAfee, who is facing deportation from Guatemala to Belize in connection with a fatal shooting, is feeling better after suffering chest pains earlier this week and is using legal channels to try to stay in the country.

Antivirus-software pioneer John McAfee is suffering from stress and hypertension but did not suffer a heart attack as originally reported, his lawyer told the media today.

"He never had a heart attack. Nothing like that," Telesforo Guerra said in Guatemala City, according to Reuters. "I'm not a doctor. I'm just telling you what the doctors told me. He was suffering from stress, hypertension, and tachycardia [an abnormally rapid heartbeat]."

The Guatemalan government has denied the asylum request of tech entrepreneur-turned fugitive John McAfee, the Associated Press reported today, which means police in Belize expect the eccentric millionaire to be flown back to Belize soon.

John McAfee, the antivirus software pioneer sought by police in connection with a murder in Belize, was arrested today by Guatemalan police for entering the country illegally.

McAfee was arrested with the help of Interpol agents at a hotel in an upscale Guatemala City neighborhood, Interior Minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla said, according to the Associated Press.
