Jodi Arias dictating Twitter feed from jail

When a murder trial becomes a televisual happening, somehow the public aspects become almost as significant as the legal ones.

We're always told the jurors don't know what's happening in the media, but we wonder that they may have known more than they let on before being selected.

Then there are the defendants and the prosecutors. Each tries to gain some sort of sway in the public eye -- perhaps on a just-in-case basis.

There now, though, seems to be an usual twist in the trial that is currently capturing popular eyes -- that of Jodi Arias.… Read more

Report: Select AT&T phones to allow third-party app stores

As we learned in early May, the Samsung Infuse 4G will be the first AT&T smartphone to allow for applications outside of the Android Market, and it looks like more are on the way.

Citing a desire to open up a bit, AT&T indicated it would be embracing third-party app stores and the side-loading of apps and games. At the time of the announcement, I was hopeful that the carrier would adopt this policy going forward with all of its Android phones. It appears my suspicions are correct, as AT&T plans to enable this … Read more

Ashcraft Design visualizes sustainable headphones

Yanko Design specializes in the art of the conceptual tease, so I'll just tell you right off the bat that the headphones (sourced from Yanko) you see here aren't available for purchase...yet. Britt Ashcraft of Ashcraft Design brings the concept of ecologically responsible gadgets to our attention with the Ashcraft Aria headphones.

Crafted with the audiophile (or The Audiophiliac) in mind, the Arias are to be built with all recyclable materials; the headband is made from wood recycled from guitars (although we have to wonder who's just trashing all these guitars), reclaimed aluminum gives way to dual satin-spun earcups, and the lining is all donated from salvaged clothing.

Since they're still in the concept stage, we can only hope that someone will check out Ashcraft Design and make its dream a reality.

In the meantime, check out the Thinksound TS01 10mm headphones for earbuds designed with the smallest eco-footprint possible.

Check out a few more pictures of the Ashcraft Aria headphones after the jump!… Read more

Samsung Captivate to get Froyo update on Thursday

Slowly but surely, the Samsung Galaxy S series phones are getting updated to Android 2.2 Froyo. First it was the Samsung Vibrant, then the Samsung Epic 4G, and now the Samsung Captivate.

AT&T said on its Facebook page that the update will be available starting tomorrow. A link to Samsung's Web site will be provided where you can find the update and instructions on how to install it.

The carrier also revealed that the HTC Aria will get Froyo as well, but did not provide a specific time frame for that update.

How Apple is present at the finest Vegas hotels

LAS VEGAS--At the crack of dawn (my dawn, not the world's), I was confronted by huge numbers of exhibitors rolling boxes, tubes, and what might have been weapon parts, towards the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Each, no doubt, feels they have the killer gadget. The one that will put, you know, that other killer gadget into the crematorium.

And yet, as the tablets, phones and, so I am told, mice you can wear like a ring, are put in place, so many of the attendees still wonder "What will Apple do?"

The shadow of the black mock … Read more

Buzz Out Loud 1251: Captain Obvious issues a memo (podcast)

From the desk of the big man himself: tablets are gonna be huge. Thanks for that one, boss. Also, iPhone 4 shipments are delayed again, and that doesn't even address the white iPhone 4 issue (where is that thing?). But Android's no help, at least not if you want the HTC Aria, which is all locked down by (you guessed it) AT&T. And in other obvious news, monkeys like TV.

HTC Aria debuts as AT&T's next Android phone

At CES 2010, AT&T said it would introduce an Android phone from HTC this year, and over the past couple of months, we've seen signs of an imminent release. On Monday, however, AT&T officially introduced the HTC Aria as its next Android device.

Available starting June 20 for $129.99 with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate, the Aria is an Android 2.1-based smartphone running HTC Sense. It has a design similar to the HTC HD Mini, which we saw back at Mobile World Congress. It features a 3.2-inch HVGA … Read more

AT&T rumored to unveil HTC Aria on June 7

Rumors are swirling this week that AT&T and HTC are gearing up to announce an Android 2.1 device called the Aria.

The smartphone may be the one that was outed by the FCC in late April, but there is still very little known about the phone other than it will run the HTC Sense UI.

However, of all the days for the carrier to announce a new phone, I'd recommend against its rumored launch date of June 7 as that is the day Apple takes the stage at its Worldwide Developers Conference. Anything AT&T … Read more
