Archos 101 XS vs. Asus Transformer TF300 vs. Slider

Thanks mostly to Asus, keyboards and tablets are kind of a thing. It started with the first Transformer, continued with the Slider, and Asus hasn't really looked back since then. And why should it? The Transformer line has been very good to the company, even if the actual keyboard costs up to $150 extra (in addition to the tablet). The Slider isn't as popular, and its prices start at nearly $500.

So there's definitely room for a cheaper Android tablet/keyboard combo. Enter Archos. In November the company will launch its 101 XS, a $400, 10.1-inch … Read more

Archos says G10 xs tablet launch details coming in three weeks

Almost five months after posting a teaser video on Youtube for its G10 xs tablet, Archos is ready to launch its latest stab at the Android tablet market. A teaser image highlighting the tablet's thinness was posted on Archos Worldwide's Facebook page with a caption saying to look for the launch announcement in three weeks.

The G10 xs is rumored to run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and have microSD and Mini-HDMI connections. The tablet, which could be the thinnest tablet yet with a 7.6mm thickness, could rival the Asus Transformer Infinity with its similar keyboard dock accessory. The G10 xs appears to be aimed at the higher-end tablet market with its eye-catching design and already looks like an upgrade from Archos' most recent effort, the 101 G9 Turbo tablet.

Android won't save media players

Sony pulled off a surprise yesterday when it added the Android 4.0-powered F800 and E470 to its popular and long-running Walkman series of personal media players.

It isn't Sony's first Walkman to run Android (in January the company unveiled the Z series) nor is Sony the first company to use Android for media players. Samsung and Archos, for example, have used the OS, with the Galaxy Player 4.2 being Sammy's most recent example.

Yet, for all the success that Android smartphones have reaped, there are no top-selling media players running Google's OS at its … Read more

The new Archos 101 G9: Is it Turbo-worthy?

You might recognize the Wi-Fi-enabled Archos 101 G9 from our previous review, but it's back and it's been "Turbo-fied." At least, that's what the manufacturer has tacked on now that the tablet's dual-core processor has been bumped up from 1GHz to 1.5GHz.

The device also has more storage space, touting a 250GB hard drive. And for all you Android lovers who are tired and done with Honeycomb and Gingerbread, fear not. The device features another noteworthy upgrade in the form of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Archos to try again with Android tablets

Ask the average mobile user to name a few tablet manufacturers and one name you're not likely to hear is Archos.

Unfortunately for the company, it is not for lack of trying. In fact, Archos has been releasing Android-based "tablets" for a few years, but none of them has really taken off.

Yet, that record isn't dissuading the company from trying again. And perhaps the new G10 XS series will help put Archos on the same playing field as other manufacturers.

Though not officially announced just yet, the new line of Android-powered devices is being teased … Read more
