The saddest person at CES: An early candidate

While most rush in to view gadgets at CES, I saunter in to see people.

Being at one with the workers, I want to see their faces, their shoes. I want to share their travails.

Last year, the outright winner of Saddest Man at CES was a hardy gentleman presenting on behalf of Sharp. He talked -- they wouldn't listen. He tried harder -- they walked by quicker.

Tiffen brings Steadicam to iPhone 3GS

Camera accessory maker Tiffen's new Steadicam gadget for the iPhone 3GS should have some heads turning--that is, if you bring it to your next barbecue or family event. The "Smoothee," as Tiffen calls it, looks similar to a Jai Alai mitt and lets you strap an iPhone onto a platform that's kept stable by a counterweight. As you move one way, the attached weight counters your actions. The setup promises smoother video shots from shots that would otherwise be made herky-jerky by sudden body movements.

iPhone apps gateway to full-strength software?

With Friday's announcement of an update to Tiffen's popular photo app for the iPhone/iPod Touch, Photo fx, I started wondering how many people use a developer's iPhone app, eventually pick up the full-size software package? (If one exists that is.)
