Justin Bieber geeks out at CES with dancing robot

LAS VEGAS--CES doesn't allow under-18s onto the show floor. So when Justin Bieber showed up at the Tosy Robotics booth, he was greeted with guttural man-screams from the predominantly guy-geek crowd.

Bieber showed up to promote Tosy's new entertainment robot, mRobo. It's a little fella with a speaker in its belly and dance moves to go along with the tunes it plays.

The robot is humanoid, but folds down into a more compact size for use as a portable speaker system. It joins Tosy's existing lineup of robots.… Read more

Tosy robots dance, draw better than you

LAS VEGAS--OK, maybe they dance and draw better than I do, but the SketRobo and DiscoRobo are some seriously skilled robots.

Showcased at the Digital Experience press event on Monday, the pair of bots are from Vietnamese robotics company Tosy. The SketRobo was the more impressive of the two. Just give the humanoid a piece of paper and a pen, and it will start drawing intricate images right before your eyes.

Sadly, the press release declares that Bieber will not be … Read more

Remote-controlled tire boggles the mind

Here's a perfect Father's Day gift if your dad's a fan of unicycles and other single-wheeled vehicles: a remote-controlled tire.

That's right, just the tire--no vehicle whatsoever. The creation of TOSY, a Vietnam-based toy and robot maker, the "R-Tyre" is billed as the "the first radio controlled tire in the world," according to Dvice. And as dubious as we are of "world's first" claims, we're inclined to believe this one.

Endless questions come to mind about this gadget--not the least of which is "Why?"--but there'… Read more
