Amazon goods for pickup at 7-Eleven soon?

Looks like you could soon be able to pick up a Double Big Gulp, an Absinthe kit and even the mysterious upcoming Amazon tablet all in one trip to your local corner store. That's because the company that sells everything is setting up shop in the store that seems to be everywhere.

Amazon's first lockers for merchandise pickup are apparently set to go online in a Seattle 7-Eleven later this week. The system looks something like a gigantic, retro hybrid of an ATM and a wall of post office boxes, from what we can make out in shots snapped by local Seattle bloggers. According to The Daily, the system will work something like the in-store pickup option that retailers including Wal-Mart and Best Buy already offer:… Read more

The 404 897: Where you both owe me 14 bucks (podcast)

Remember the story we told you last week about the woman who spent $180 on what turned out to be a wooden Apple iPad? It happened again! In the same city! There's a lesson to be learned in all of this, and that lesson is to never trust anyone with more than four gold teeth.

Same rule goes for mustaches, and Google's celebrating Freddie Mercury's 65th birthday with a Web app that lets you add a mustache to every face on the Internet! We'll demo it today using someone else's face, however, since none of us are creepy enough to grow our own mustache.

We'll also talk about Amazon.com-branded delivery lockers popping up in select 7-Eleven stores, adding fuel to the fires already burning through the United States Postal Service, and introduce a new photo caption segment that Wilson cooked up over the weekend.

The 404 Digest for Episode 897

This is why Jeff and Wilson owe me 14 bones. After the $180 wooden iPad comes the $250 paper laptop (same city). Google honors Freddie Mercury with Mustachify.me. Google doodles a complex piece for Freddie Mercury. Amazon starts putting the USPS out of work, one 7-Eleven at a time. The U.S. Post Office says a winter shutdown is possible. T-Mobile's replacement for RadioShack: 7-Eleven

T-Mobile USA is replacing the outlets that will be lost when RadioShack switches to Verizon Wireless, and early today announced that its first new partner is 7-Eleven.

T-Mobile and 7-Eleven said that, as of yesterday, consumers can buy prepaid handsets at the convenience store chain. The partnership signals T-Mobile's increasing presence in the prepaid area; 7-Eleven is already known for selling prepaid phones and calling cards.

While the partnership gets T-Mobile in 8,800 7-Eleven stores in North America, it is a poor replacement for RadioShack. RadioShack said last week it would begin selling Verizon Wireless products and servicesRead more

7-Eleven: Slurpees, hot dogs, console games

7-Eleven--probably best-known for Slurpees, hot dogs, and being open all night--is expanding its game offerings by getting into used console titles.

The franchise announced Monday a partnership with Game Trading Technologies to create a new program called Great Games Below $20. The program will bring "a mixture of games" into more than 3,000 7-Eleven stores starting immediately.

All titles available in 7-Eleven stores will be preowned and priced at $19.99 or below.

According to Game Trading Technologies spokesman Jody Janson, all the major consoles and handheld platforms will be represented in 7-Eleven's game lineup. Janson … Read more
