Review: Poor design prevents you from seeing what Mini Webcam has to offer

Webcams are nothing new, but we were intrigued by the idea of one that delivers live video from our iPhone directly to the Web. Unfortunately, a poorly designed interface prevented us from fully experiencing Mini Webcam's potential.

Mini Webcam opened with a fairly straightforward display, at least at first glance. Your Webcam's name appears at the top and you have the option of changing it. In our case, it pulled our iPhone's name (which was our own) and displayed it. Swiping your finger pulls up the rest of the app's settings, which include adjusting the app'… Read more

Review: flayvr: photo and video albums sorts photos and videos into albums

flayvr: photo and video albums makes it easier to view and organize your photos and videos. This app turns your albums into wonderful collages and will stop you from endlessly scrolling to find the perfect picture you're looking for. If you need a new way to look at your photos and videos, then give it a shot.

flayvr: photo and video albums organizes your photos into separate albums called "flayvrs," based on their timestamps and other metadata. However, you can't change the way they're organized to suit the way you browse photos, or delete the … Read more

Review: Voice converts text to audio quickly and easily

Voice for Mac works fairly well at translating text into audio, but the available voice options all sound very computerized. The application is available for free and installs easily.

The main menu seems sparse with few details that would be expected of an advanced application. Fortunately, the main functions are clearly labeled. A box allows text to be manually typed or pasted in from other applications. An export button allows the output to be saved for later use, and a Preferences menu allows selection of a number of playback voices and speed of the reading. After typing in the text, … Read more

Fynch for Twitter 1.0.2 Review

Being that Twitter is one of the most popular social networks on the Internet, there are hundreds of applications available that strive to improve its experience. For anyone who uses this network on a regular basis, the Twitter feed can become quite cumbersome after a while, especially if the user follows too many sources and cannot keep up with the posts any longer. Fynch for Twitter claims to reorganize your tweets so you can review them in an efficient manner. While this app seems to work for the most part, it is not without flaws.

Installation of Fynch for Twitter … Read more

Android Equalizer Player 1.0.2 Review

If you're an audiophile, the built-in media players in Android are never going to wow you. Even Google Music lacks advanced audio control. Android Equalizer Player, however, gives you a quality audio equalizer to enjoy your music more. Your mileage will vary based on how good your speakers are, but the extra control this player gives is welcome.

The app's blank, black layout is a minimalist's dream. It's just white text on a black background with no frills. That gives you all the room you need for music, but tapping the right buttons requires plenty of … Read more

Coloring Shapes for Toddlers FREE 1.0.2 Review

To be sure, more parents than ever before are using electronic devices like their iPads and iPhones to entertain young children. These amazing devices are tailor-made for kids to swipe and tap games or movies. But some of the games, developed specifically for toddlers and other preschool-age children, utilize certain shortcuts that can present problems.

One such game is Coloring Shapes for Toddlers. The app is fairly straightforward in that, once you open it, you press the "Touch to Color!" button and can start coloring one of many shapes. Tap a color and the brush and start coloring … Read more

English Reading 1.0.2 Review

Learning any language can be a tough endeavor, but reading words and hearing their pronunciations can help make the new language stick. English Reading combines classic literature with an audio feature. The app is pretty bare bones, but what it offers will appeal to those learning English and those who are looking for a few free reads.

English Reading's interface certainly won't win any design awards. It features two menu options: News and Books. The News option offers headlines from "Time," Reuters, NBC News, "USA Today," and "The Washington Post" (though it'… Read more

Trailer Pop Review

What better device is there to watch movie trailers on than an iPad? Portable, often with you when out and discussing movies, and always connected to the Internet, it's a great mobile box office. So Trailer Pop comes to the table with a strong premise. Even better, Trailer Pop integrates a clever quiz into the app, allowing you to test yourself on your knowledge of any given movie.

After installing Trailer Pop, you'll be prompted to sign in with Facebook or create a new account. After you do so, a new trailer will start playing, and quiz questions … Read more

Drive to the hoop with NBA2K13

For years, when it came to basketball video games, the 2K series of NBA titles has been at the top. On consoles it has consistently ranked among the best sports games on the market, and now, with a full featured mobile edition of the game, it is taking on the tablet and phone space on the App Store. While NBA 2K13 cannot live up to the full potential of the series as realized on a living room gaming console, it is still very compelling and fun to play on a tablet or iPhone.

After installation, you'll notice most of … Read more
