CNET is the Official Digital News and Video Partner of CES

You may be planning the 2012 holidays in your house, but the CNET house is already thinking about our big holiday: The 2013 International CES.

Our official coverage of CES starts soon, and of course we'll blog, tweet, and slideshow the living daylights out of any news related to the show. Those are table stakes for good CES coverage.

But as the Official Digital News and Video Partner of CES, we'll also deliver live coverage of every CES event you wish you could attend yourself. We'll start our streaming on CES Press Day (Monday, January 7) and … Read more

Women in tech: Come to CES, claim your voice

It's not news that women don't come to CES in droves--it's always been this way.

When I bring up the topic, I often get this response from both men and women, sometimes with a shrug: "Women just don't like technology the same way that men do," or "It's like sports; men care about the fiddling with technology. Women just want it to work." The prevailing thinking is that men are from GadgetLand and women are from...somewhere else. And no one seems particularly upset about it.

We should be more upset … Read more

CNET's CES 2012 live streams take live-blogging to the next level

AT CES 2012, CNET is doing something no other media outlet can.

We're live-streaming nearly every CES press conference from CNET's CES 2012 special package along with 20-plus live blogs, then running live commentary from the CNET Stage between events. Why bother setting up the intricate infrastructure it takes to live-stream everything? Because it makes the experience of watching a CES live blog so much more complete.

Just find the keynote or press conference that interests you from our CNET list of events, and you'll see what I mean. When the live stream goes up, we embed … Read more

Leak Week makes CES better (opinion)

LAS VEGAS--Will there be any news left to announce on CES 2012 Press Day?

Yes, of course there will. Tomorrow's CES lineup of press conferences is as impressive as ever: CNET will be covering 22 live events by tech headliners by my count. But at least six of them have already lost some thunder. So far, tech media has leaked news from Vizio (now with ultrabooks!), Sprint (4G Galaxy Nexus), Nokia and Windows (Nokia "Ace" 900), Nikon (leaks prompted Nikon to release D4 info early), Acer (more, more, more ultrabooks), and even the toy manufacturer Parrot got … Read more

My CES predictions...for 2022

In these heady days before the biggest U.S. tech trade show of the year, the Internet is awash with CES 2012 predictions.

It's amazing how many there are. Hell, the CES hashtag has been featured already on the Twitter Discover tab since Tuesday--a full week before the show formally opens. At CNET, we've been writing about our predictions for weeks in our special CES 2012 package. Netbooks, ultracheap laptops, amazing OLED TVs. It's all there.

Out of curiosity, a colleague looked up the CES schedule for the next 10 years--yes, it exists, with dates selected … Read more

The Consumer Electronics Association today confirmed Ballmer will be giving the kick-off keynote address.

"We are pleased to welcome Microsoft back to the CES keynote stage," said CEA President Gary Shapiro. CES: How men from NASA decided balls were more fun

LAS VEGAS--It's not that I stagger around CES looking for indicators of man's doom. It's that they accost me with the precision of a pastry chef.

"Hi," said a very charming man (for an engineer), as I stood entirely mesmerized by a little ball rolling between a couple of cones.

Adam Wilson is one of the founders of Orbotix. He told me that half of the folks at Orbotix used to work at NASA. Now they make Sphero, a little ball that rolls between a couple of cones.

Oh, did I mention that the fun … Read more

'Top Chef' techs it up at CES

Nestled amid all the tech products and services at CES this week is the Bravo TV booth, featuring cooking demos by former "Top Chef" contender Richard Blais. But Blais isn't totally out of place here: he applies a bit of science and tech to cook up his culinary delights.

Narrowly losing the Top Chef title in season four of the series, Blaise is well-known to fans of the fast-paced cooking show for his molecular gastronomy approach to food preparation, a process that dives into the chemical reactions that occur as different ingredients are combined.

One of Blaise'… Read more

CES: Christian gaming site offers morality scores

As the doors to CES swung open, I rushed in looking for a technology that would save me, hopefully, from myself.

I thought I had found it within seconds.

For there was a large image of Jesus Christ who looked like he was gaming. I pushed past the peddlers and the half-naked dancing girls and headed straight to GameChurch.com's booth.

GameChurch's Doug Christensen was quick to anoint me with his pitch. He explained that GameChurch was a place for Christian gamers to get together and be themselves. Then he told me that the site reviews games and … Read more
