Power on: Intel's cable TV box could debut at CES

Intel may offer a peek at its rumored cable TV set-top box to people attending the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week.

An unnamed source inside Intel said that the first working version of the chipmaker's set-top box will be shown at Intel's CES event on January 7, according to tips received by TechCrunch. A video distribution industry source familiar with Intel's plans also told the blog site that the rollout of the new service will start "soon," but couldn't provide a specific date.

People who want to convert their physical DVDs to an online digital format can now do so via Best Buy, and without leaving home.

Now available as a beta program, Best Buy's CinemaNow service promises to convert your discs into an UltraViolet format that you can store and watch online. UltraViolet is a system that lets you house your movies and TV shows in the cloud and then access them from an Internet-enabled device.

Hulu chief asks bosses for $200M in funding -- WSJ

Hulu CEO Jason Kilar has asked his corporate overlords for twice as much cash as last year to fund the company's growth strategy, a new report claims.

Kilar has petitioned Hulu owners Walt Disney, Comcast, and News Corp. for $200 million for 2013 to be used for acquiring more programming and expanding the company's reach around the world, the Wall Street Journal is reporting today, citing people who claim to have knowledge of the talks. Last year, Kilar asked for about half of that figure.

Which trailers did people flock to view on YouTube this year? Those for the game Call of Duty dominated, but a few popular films heated up the site as well.

The 2012 YouTube Top Trailers Leaderboard revealed the top 10 most-viewed movie, TV, and video game trailers of the year. Combined, the 10 trailers scored more than 170 million views through both promotion and sheer popularity.

YouTube has revealed which news stories riveted the video-watching masses during 2012.

As part of its year in review, YouTube noted that Superstorm Sandy was a popular, if sobering, topic on the site this year, with 39,000 hurricane-related videos showing up on the video site in just one week. iTunes expands movie sales to 42 more countries

iTunes users in a wider range of countries can now buy or rent movies, though some will bump into certain limitations.

Citing reports from some of its readers, AppleInsider says that iTunes movies are now up for sale or rental in more countries, such as South Africa. However, the movies available vary from country to country.

Some countries provide only films from Disney, Sony, and their subsidiaries, AppleInsider noted. Others don't offer movie rentals or high-definition films.

Skype updates iOS app to let you log in with a Microsoft account

Skype has updated its iOS app to give it some of the same features as its full client software.

Released today, the latest version lets you log into Skype with your Microsoft account and chat with contacts on Messenger, Hotmail, or Outlook.com.
