Seeing red: AT&T/Cingular introduces red BlackBerry Pearl and Treo 680

Look out! AT&T/Cingular is painting the town red as they officially introduced the red RIM BlackBerry Pearl and the crimson Palm Treo 680 today. The Pearl will sport a dark ruby red casing, rather than the blinding hue we had feared earlier. It'll also be the first phone to sport the new AT&T branding. Aside from the cosmetic changes, the blushing smart phone keeps all the features of the original BlackBerry Pearl, including push e-mail, multimedia functions, and push-to-talk capabilities. The red Pearl is available starting today; prices start at $199.99 with a … Read more

My stinky BlackJack

My Samsung BlackJack stinks. But it's not what you might be thinking. It's not that it's poor quality, but rather it really smells bad. I'm currently testing a BlackJack to include in a coming CNET Prizefight with the RIM BlackBerry 8800. Whoever had the device before me must have been a chain smoker because this thing reeks like an ashtray. I've never seen a cell phone retain stench so acutely. Perhaps the rubberized covering on the back side is to blame? I'm just not sure. But whatever the reason, it smells like a bar … Read more

BlackBerry Pearls are red, Crave is blue...

Because we're not huge fans of the blinding color, how about you? All right, poets we are not and this isn't the real BlackBerry Pearl Red (just a mock-up). But, according to the latest report from Engadget Mobile, such a device appears to be Cingular-bound. Perhaps taking a page from the LG Chocolate and all of its colored variations, RIM seems to be trying to get the most out of its popular messaging device with minimal effort; the BlackBerry Pearl is already available in black and white. No official word on availability and pricing, though we figure (or … Read more

Juicy BlackBerry 8300 pictures emerge

Man, the RIM BlackBerry 8800 has to feel a little jilted. The sleek, full QWERTY device just came out over a week ago, and already we've moved on to the next big thing. That's a pretty quick 15 minutes of fame, even in the tech world. But can you really blame us? Not when there are rumors of a Wi-Fi-enabled BlackBerry 8820 out in the wild. And now, thanks to Spanish site Mentesdigitales, we can drool over another rumored RIM device, the BlackBerry 8300, aka "Daytona." This sexy beast sports an attractive silver casing as well … Read more

RIM and Cingular announce BlackBerry 8800

Warm up those thumbs, kids: Research in Motion finally has announced the RIM BlackBerry 8800 that we've been hearing about as of late. Available through Cingular/AT&T, the BlackBerry 8800 is a full QWERTY device, and taking a page from its slimmer sibling the BlackBerry Pearl, it sports a new, sleek black casing, a trackball navigator, and a built-in media player for music and videos. The BlackBerry 8800 also has built-in GPS, so you can use it in conjunction with the carrier's TeleNav GPS Navigator service to get 3D maps and turn-by-turn driving directions right on … Read more

BlackBerry 8800 : Like the Pearl, but bigger and better

I've never gotten along with the SureType keyboards on some of RIM's BlackBerry devices. You input a couple of letters, get a list of possible words, scroll over to the correct one, then select it--yeah, no thanks. I know it gets easier to use over time, but it really shouldn't be so much work. It's a shame, too, because they're found on some of the company's best smart phones, including the sexy BlackBerry Pearl. I really like the design and functionality of the Pearl, but much prefer to have a full QWERTY keyboard. What'… Read more

The BlackBerry Pearl White: smooth as Barry White

Forgive the horrible pun in the headline (five days in Vegas will do that to you), but corniness aside, the important news is that T-Mobile and Research in Motion have just released a white version of the BlackBerry Pearl and it's now available for purchase online and in retail stores.

The new pearl-white color is part of T-Mobile's and RIM's strategy to appeal to general consumers and the younger crowd, providing them with a full-featured smart phone in a sleek and stylish package. The BlackBerry Pearl White's feature set is identical to the original Pearl's.… Read more

Cingular quietly prelaunches BlackBerry Pearl (updated)

It's been no secret that Cingular would get its own version of the BlackBerry Pearl, since the company announced the news at the fall CTIA 2006 show, but we really haven't heard much since then. However, it seems the little gem of a smart phone is on its way; the carrier has quietly posted an advertisement on its business Web site, taunting customers with "coming soon" promises. Still, no details on exact availability date or pricing, but we've contacted Cingular reps to see if we can get them to spill the beans. In the meantime, … Read more

IT guys don't need e-mail to control your BlackBerry

Buying a BlackBerry without e-mail capability would be like drafting Reggie Bush and asking him not to run the ball. Really, what's the point? Why spend all that money and not use it for what it does best?

OK, apparently there are people who do this--and they populate the IT departments of manufacturing, insurance, health care and real esate businesses, to name a few. In which case, they'll be happy to note that Research In Motion has come out with BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Mobile Data System Applications. The software lets the IT folks control what is/isn'… Read more
