Is Microsoft developing a Zune phone?

Wacky rumor or legitimate buzz? CrunchGear is reporting that a well-connected tipster has informed them that Microsoft is developing a "Zune phone." Allegedly, it'll be able to sync with other Microsoft devices, like the Xbox 360 and its movie download service. And it probably won't run Windows Mobile--it'll have a Zune-branded interface instead.

CrunchGear is reporting a possible December release date. It's a long way off, and any "tipsters" should be taken with a grain of salt. (Especially when dealing with Microsoft and its penchant for changing release dates around multiple times.)… Read more

An iPhone without the phone?

A girl can dream. And, actually, the M8 is the perfect dream for me, as it's not an iPod. Supposedly, Meizu is working on a new MiniPlayer, called the M8. Despite some quirky aspects to the company's M6, I was impressed with the player on the whole, so I'm excited to see the next offering from Meizu. The new player purportedly will offer a 2.6-inch screen and come loaded with the latest Windows CE OS, something we don't often see on MP3 players. Of course, this is all fantasy at this point, but Engadget has … Read more

Which of these wacky Apple rumors are real and which are fake?

While browsing my RSS feeds this morning, I noticed that some particularly unusual Apple-related rumors were circulating about the series of tubes. So I decided to turn it into a game. Now, if you're a rabid Jobsian who follows all those Apple gossip blogs as though they were Us Weekly, you'll find this little quiz a cinch. But for those of you who aren't, answer this for me--Which of the following "Apple rumors" are legitimate rumors, and which ones did I just make up on the spot?

Three are real. The others are figments of … Read more

Apple eyes MacBook's underside

To all of you who've been craving an ultraportable MacBook: Steve Jobs hears you.

Gizmodo and a few other sources are pointing to two Apple patent applications, published today, as evidence that a smaller MacBook (or MacBook Pro) will be forthcoming. The applications describe an optical disc drive that's accessible via the bottom of a laptop and a novel "access system" for removing discs from the upside-down drive. Why put the drive on the bottom of the laptop? To clear up room for more ports along the edges of an ever-thinner-and-smaller laptop, of course.

Is the Wiimote getting tweaked?

There was much fanfare over here as fellow Craver Will Greenwald finally got his hands on a Wii earlier this week, but new rumors about the blogosphere* are indicating that the much-coveted Nintendo console may already be due for a bit of a facelift. Well, not really. But the Wiimote, of screen-smashing fame, might be getting some adjustments to deal with some of the most common user complaints. According to a German gaming news site, the grip will be improved to make it a little easier to hold onto, and the Wiimote will somehow have a rechargeable battery. As Kotaku blogger Luke Plunkett says, &… Read more

Newsweek's Levy adds to iPhone buzz, confirms Gates alien rumors

Last night, a mixed bag of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, publicists, and geeks flocked to a lecture hall at Manhattan's Cooper Union for the 2006 year-end edition of the NY Tech Meetup, hosted by Meetup founder Scott Heiferman himself. Okay, it wasn't really a mixed bag, as I was one of about a dozen females in the room. (CNET TV's Chris Parker taught me that the proper term for such a situation is "brodeo.")

Usually the NY Tech meetup consists of six five-minute presentations by local entrepreneurs. But last night's event had a special appearance … Read more

Rumor: Taiwanese iPhone contract?

iPhone rumors in the states are hardly new--commonplace, to be exact--but this one's at least slightly different because it's coming from overseas.

A Chinese newspaper is reporting that Apple has awarded a contract to build the elusive iPhone to Hon Hai, a contract manufacturer based in Taiwan.

The Commercial Times says Apple has ordered 12 million iPhones from Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, with an eye on a first-half 2007 unveiling. It was hard to find a direct link to the Commercial Times story, but outfits like Bloomberg and Forbes picked up the story, as did a … Read more

Are there two new PSPs on the way?

The Sony news these days might be split evenly between PS3 buzz and battery-recall woes, but a new rumor's starting to swirl over at Digg: are there new PSPs on the way? Apparently there are two new models in the works, one with a hard drive and one with lots of Flash memory. The whispers appear to have originated at YouNewb, and Diggers are generally cynical. Is it believable? And if so, is a new PSP needed?

"PSP2" rumors and speculation have circulated for quite some time: CNET compiled a wishlist of desired features. And gaming blog … Read more

Razr Maxx for Verizon?

As if we haven't inundated you with enough Razr news, here's another juicy tidbit for the Razr rumor mill. Spotted on Engadget Mobile is this rather convincing image of a Motorola Razr Maxx for Verizon Wireless. While we've certainly heard of the GSM version of the Motorola Razr Maxx (you can read more about it in our Motorola line show), the idea of a CDMA version of this high-end Razr successor is certainly news to us. No idea if this image is a Photoshop jobbie or the real deal, but if it's anything like the GSM … Read more
