The boombox gets an LCD

It's not clear to us why someone would need a boombox with a built-in LCD to watch DVDs, but we want one anyway (naturally). Part of the reason is the sleek black design of this media mini-center from Germany's Yamada.

The colorfully named HTV-200XU also comes with a TV tuner, FM radio and a burner to rip CDs as well as DVDs, for 220 euros (about $300). Coolest-Gadgets says it can also connect to the TV, though we're not sure why you'd want an LCD boombox for that.

Panasonic Viera: LCD from a plasma lover

Panasonic doesn't much care for LCD. It's often telling us how much better plasma is than the liquid crystal displays of other manufacturers. But you have to admire Panny--even though it thinks the technology is inferior, it still produces great televisions using it. The Viera TX-32LMD70 is one such success story--it has made Crave froth with a rabid technological hunger.

Mazda mirror tries to end blind spots

Mazda says it's come up with a car technology that's the closest thing to having eyes in the back of your head. The "Back Up Camera with Auto-Dimming Mirror Display" promises to do precisely what the prosaic name indicates: Its rear-view mirror has an LCD screen that appears only when the car is in reverse, otherwise concealed by a special coating (called "transflective," whatever that means).

We weren't particularly fond of the keyboard computer, but we don't want to hold that against all combo devices. 37-inch LCD proves pink is still in

The pink-gadget craze is far from over, contrary to some speculation, if JVC-Victor's latest release is any indication. Among the company's new line of TVs released in Japan was a 37-inch pink model (with matching remote, of course). Technical information is a bit hard to come by, other than its 1,366x768 resolution. But Engadget has the most pertinent information anyway: It also comes in brown, beige and silver.

All bamboo, all the time

Just a few hours ago we were convinced that wood was taking over the gadget world, but we may have to refine that a bit--perhaps it's just bamboo.
