T-Mobile G3 rumors heat up

T-Mobile could be readying a new model for its "G" series of Android smartphones, according to speculation hitting the Internet this week.

Unofficial T-Mobile blog TmoNews advises that an HTC Era 42 will arrive on the carrier's network in late September. There are no additional details to share yet, including pricing, form factor, or hardware, so at this point, it's all rumors and conjecture. But they're fairly logical rumors and conjecture.

As many longtime Android faithful know, a September 26 release would fall nearly two years to the day since the release of the G2. … Read more

Samsung to launch 64GB Galaxy S3 in second half of year

Samsung's 64GB Galaxy S3 is alive and well and due to launch during the second half of the year.

Addressing concerns that the 64GB flavor had been discontinued, Samsung told The Verge that the new model phone is on track for release later this year. The company cautioned that the device is currently scheduled for an international rollout. So U.S. customers may have a longer wait on their hands.

CNET contacted Samsung for comment and will update the story when we get more information. But the company issued the following statement to the Verge:

The 64GB model of … Read more

Isis mobile pay service may start trials in August

Isis, a joint venture among Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile USA, will likely start trials of its mobile-payment service in August, according to a person familiar with the launch plans.

The August target, however, isn't set in stone. CNET has gotten indications elsewhere that the timing may change. A representative for Isis only said the service would begin trials in Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas, this summer, pushed back from the prior forecast of a mid-year launch.

Isis will join Google Wallet in its attempt to get people to start paying at cash registers with their … Read more

Google's Wonder Woman could save Yahoo

Tuesday's biggest tech story has a superstar trading teams, and I'm not talking Jeremy Lin:

She was a top executive at Google and Google's first female employee. She oversaw pretty much every Google service that's a common part of your life, including maps and search. Expect Mayer to breathe new life into Yahoo's services. Perhaps she can even lure talented computer minds to join her new team. … Read more

T-Mobile could debut Galaxy S Blaze Q on August 15

T-Mobile's Android lineup includes another Galaxy series handset in the coming weeks, according to details uncovered by TmoNews. Called the Galaxy S Blaze Q, the smartphone should join the carrier's roster on August 15.

Unconfirmed details for the SGH-T699 handset suggest a midrange Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich experience with a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, a 720pHD display, 1GB RAM, and a pair of cameras. The sliding QWERTY keyboard, which isn't that common anymore, should appeal to social networking enthusiasts and first-time smartphone buyers. Given the rumored hardware, I suspect a low price point is … Read more

Man destroys T-Mobile store in a fit of anger

Cell phone providers can be annoying. They do all sorts of unspeakable things like charge us for texts that cost them very little to send.

However, one gentleman seems to have enjoyed an extra level of irritation at the services provided by T-Mobile in the U.K.

I am grateful to TechCrunch for directing me to footage posted on YouTube that shows a gentleman in a T-Mobile store in Manchester, England, who expressed his displeasure a little too aggressively. … Read more

Vodafone nabs newly departed T-Mobile USA chief

Former T-Mobile USA chief executive Philipp Humm has joined Vodafone Group, after leaving the company less than 24 hours ago.

The Deutsche Telekom-owned company issued a statement yesterday announcing Humm's immediate departure.

This morning, he was named Vodafone Group's chief for northern and central Europe division.

Humm's departure was sudden and unexpected to those outside the company, despite internal memos suggesting it had been in the works for some time. Humm's family stayed in Europe as he took on the T-Mobile USA chief executive's role in 2010, and said he planned to return to reunite … Read more
