LG doesn't care about the cloak and dagger secrecy that usually accompanies smartphone launches. The company has officially launched the new Quick Window case for its upcoming LG G2 flagship handset.
Expected to arrive at the same time as LG's flagship handset, the colorful accessory will be available in seven shades: black, white, pink, purple, blue, mint, and yellow.
Much like Samsung's S-View Flip Cover, the Quick Window case has a cut-out window to provide at-a-glance information such as the clock, weather, incoming calls, and messages.
To activate the the interactive Quick Window interface, one simply swipes … Read more
Get ready for Sprint unshackled.
The Overland Park, Kan., company is poised to step up its game on multiple fronts in the coming months, with plans to get more vocal on the marketing front and to improve its service by accelerating its network upgrade plans.
"Our real focus on the second half is putting the pedal to the metal on 'Network Vision,'" CEO Dan Hesse told CNET on Tuesday. "We're making sure we finish 2013 with a phenomenal network."
Just how long before the more aggressive Sprint emerges remains up in the air. The company … Read more
Sprint has expanded the footprint of its 4G LTE coverage with the addition of 41 new markets across the U.S., the wireless carrier announced Monday night.
The carrier, which lags behind Verizon Wireless with its LTE network, added markets such as Philadelphia, Portand, Ore., and Oakland, Calif., bringing the footprint of Sprint's high-speed wireless network up to 151 markets.
While the update brings long-awaited network access to Brooklyn and the Bronx, the rest of New York -- Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island -- is still without coverage. Sprint hasn't said when the rest of the city would … Read more
Well, it's only supposed to get better from here.
That's the attitude Sprint is likely taking after posting a net loss of $1.6 billion and net subscriber losses of 2 million. While the numbers look bad, there remains reason to be optimistic.
Sprint was officially acquired by Japanese carrier SoftBank earlier this month, a deal expected to bring capital and expertise to the company. The quarter represented the last one in which Sprint was operating two separate networks, its core Sprint network and a different, incompatible Nextel network. The Nextel service was shut down at the end … Read more
The upcoming LG G2 will arrive in the United States as early as September, according to LG CFO David Jung.
Speaking to Korea's The Kyunghyang Shinmun (translate) recently, the executive spilled a few beans about the flagship smartphone. The device will reportedly launch in South Korea in August, followed by North America and Europe in September, and by additional markets in October.
In terms of U.S. carrier support, Jung noted that Verizon is in line to offer the G2. Engadget reminds us that recently leaked FCC details also suggest that AT&T and T-Mobile will offer the … Read more
Three-quarters of the EU has no 4G coverage, and fourth-generation services are practically non-existent in rural areas.
According to the European Commission, only one-quarter of the EU's population lives within reach of a 4G LTE network. For those living in more remote areas, that figure drops to practically zero, the EC said on Thursday.
At the 4G-free end of the spectrum are three countries with no operators offering fourth-generation services: Cyprus, Malta and Ireland. There are, however, three countries with what the EC calls an "advanced 4G rollout": Germany, Estonia, and Sweden.
In its continual arms race with arch rival Verizon, AT&T announced it has brought 4G LTE data coverage to eight fresh metro areas. The additional coverage zones the carrier says brings its total high-speed wireless footprint to 336 regions.
The specific locations AT&T has brought into the 4G fold are; Greenville, Ala., Troy, Ala., Madera-Chowchilla, Calif., Merced, Calif., Vallejo-Vacaville, Calif., New London County, Conn., Sussex County, Del., and Columbia, Mo. It's all part of Ma Bell's master plan to have 400 4G LTE areas lit up by the end of 2013, servicing an expected … Read more
Sprint is finally bringing its speedy LTE service to New York City -- but not everyone in the Big Apple will get it.
The company will officially announce that the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Bronx will be fully connected to LTE by July 30, CNET has learned.
Unfortunately, the rest of New York -- Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island -- is still left hanging. Sprint hasn't said when the rest of the city would get lit up, only saying the network would grow "in the coming months."
Sprint's rollout is indicative of the complexities … Read more
As the wireless carriers shift into high gear with their speedy 4G LTE networks, Sprint has seemingly been stuck in the slow lane.
The company has showed some progress in the critical market of New York. But even there it's not a complete victory, with only two of the five boroughs -- Brooklyn and Bronx -- officially lit up with 4G LTE.
The partial deployment of New York is illustrative of the rocky road that Sprint has been on as it upgrades its wireless network -- a frustrating reality for both the company and its millions of customers.
