Verizon's Motorola Droid Razr now in blue

Verizon today announced that the Motorola Droid Razr Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone will be available in select Verizon stores with a blue finish.

If you don't see it in a store near you, just wait until May 17 to see it in all Verizon retailers and online at Verizon.com.

While we haven't seen the blue phone in the real world, I have high hopes that it'll look pretty good, in light of how well Motorola did with the other colors in the Droid Razr spectrum, black, white, and purple.

The blue Droid Razr will come … Read more

Which new smartphone will be summer's first big hit?

Summer smartphone season kicks off this month with CTIA in New Orleans, but the big phone makers have already started revealing the touch-screen goodies they hope will become your latest addiction. I sifted through the recently announced devices and a few that we're still expecting to try and picked the ones most likely to be remembered four months from now -- either as a mega-success, or the tech punch line of summer 2012.

We already know of three blockbuster phones that will be available before most schools are out this month -- Verizon's Droid Incredible 4G LTE from HTC is official; a quad-core Samsung Galaxy S III has been unveiled in Europe and already booked its summer trip to the States we hear, and HTC's flagship Android phone is also here in the form of the HTC One X. Those are the three leading contenders for sweet summer phone of the year, but there's always room for surprises and surprising sleepers. … Read more

HTC's Droid Incredible 4G LTE has its own ICS flavor (hands-on)

NEW ORLEANS--Ladies and gentlemen, behold the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone rumored to step into the light at CTIA 2012. Well, here it is.

Calling it a variant of the HTC One X or One S would be a simple way to describe the Incredible 4G LTE, but not the most accurate. It really does retain a lot of the Droid Incredible character in look and feel, down to the contoured back (not quite as topographical as in previous versions) and the bright red accents that signal out the Incredible's design … Read more

New phones and services herald start of CTIA

On a sultry New Orleans afternoon today, AT&T took over a century-old Garden District mansion to open the 2012 CTIA. Yes, the annual wireless confab doesn't formally open until tomorrow morning, but the news already is coming fast and furious. And though I don't arrive in the Big Easy until tomorrow either, a big CNET team is on the ground by the Mississippi. Here are the highlights of what they saw today. … Read more

Verizon announces HTC Incredible with 4G LTE and ICS

NEW ORLEANS--HTC announced a 4G LTE updated Droid Incredible for Verizon Wireless, which looks very similar to the HTC One S offered on T-Mobile USA.

The new Droid Incredible 4G LTE for Verizon is a variation of the HTC One S that HTC is already selling on T-Mobile USA. But there is one notable difference. This HTC device supports 4G LTE on Verizon's extensive network.

The device also comes with an advanced camera with an 8 megapixel resolution that can take up to three shots per second. It also has Beats Audio integration for improved sound quality. It runs … Read more

How Verizon tried to unsell me an iPhone

"So why do you sell iPhones at all?" I ended up asking Phil, the Verizon rep.

"Because people want them," was his beautiful reply.

This was the conclusion to a morning foray to a Verizon store in the New York area, one in which I tried to discover if the rumors were true.

No, not whether the iPhone 5 is coming next week, but whether Verizon tries to sell any other smartphone, but Apple's. This notion had been fostered by several posts this week that offered Verizon's apparent reluctance to encourage anyone to buy … Read more

What Android might bring us from CTIA

Next week as wireless fans descend on New Orleans for the annual CTIA Wireless show, we'll get one more peek at how the mobile landscape will unfold over the coming months. Previously held in March, but moved to May for 2012, the three-day event takes a North American focus while including the wireless movers and shakers from around the world.

At previous shows, carriers have pulled back the curtain on high-profile Android smartphones and tablets. In 2010, for example, Sprint announced the HTC Evo 4G and last year we got the slimmed-down Galaxy Tab 10.1. So considering the rapid clip of mobile development, it stands to reason that this year will be no exception, right? … Read more
