Porsche's street-fighting Cayenne

It's a rare SUV that comes with a manual transmission. It's an even rarer SUV that can justify it. The Porsche Cayenne GTS's handling makes a manual transmission a preferred option. Unfortunately, just not the particular manual used in the GTS. This car's handling finesse makes you want to give it a quick downshift before a corner, to get the most out of its 405 horsepower engine on the way out, but shifter's long throw adds to that gear change time significantly.

That criticism aside, this new Cayenne sports some new cabin tech, a suite … Read more

12 hottest tech cars of 2010

We've seen them at auto shows and special events, the 12 hottest tech cars to debut in 2010. Each of these cars represents automakers' efforts to push the technology envelope, whether through cabin or power-train tech.

Don't expect to find another tired update of an economy model amongst this group. Some are radical attempts to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, others institute new technologies in the cabin, and a few we've selected are pinnacles of engineering.

These cars will become available to the public throughout the year, and it looks like a good year indeed.

Could this be the world's heaviest drag race?

Having spent time behind the steering wheels of the BMW X6 M, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the Infiniti FX50S, and the Range Rover Sport, I was fairly certain that I could predict the outcome of Autocar's drag race between the four sporty SUVs (is that a bit redundant?). And for the most part, I was right. I won't spoil the ending for you, but I can't help but to think that the outcome would be decidedly different and much more interesting if this race where held off-road! I mean, these are SUVs after all.

The 2010 Porsche Cayenne goes hybrid

In case you haven't been following along with the blog this week, I've been devoting this week to covering some of the recent hybrid vehicles that have been unleashed for the 2010 automotive year. Today we're turning our attention to the Porsche Cayenne hybrid model and it sure looks and run like a Porsche should.

The 2010 Porsche Cayenne hybrid version is the result of their collaboration with Volkswagen to create a "green" version of this popular SUV. Its main selling points seem to be the fact that the Cayenne hybrid emits roughly 20% less … Read more

mPhase emergency flashlight stays lit until 2030

mPower Technolgies, Inc. will debut a flashlight with a shelf life of 20 years: the mPower Emergency Illuminator.

The idea came about when a technology company executive found himself changing a flat tire in the dark, as his flashlight battery was dead. He was then inspired to create a flashlight that would never let him down.

His company, mPhase technologies, happened to be working on an extended battery technology for defense and computer purposes, but he saw how it could be useful for all consumers.

mPhase Technologies has since partnered with the Porsche Design Studio to fashion a sleek flashlight … Read more

One of the few European sports cars at the 2009 International Auto Show in San Francisco that people were allowed to get behind the wheel of was the 2010 Porsche Boxster S. And for those of us who may never get such an opportunity, here's a video of the 2010 Porsche Boxster Spyder in action on the roadway. Boy, what a sweet view it is.

The most beautiful cars in Los Angeles

Sport car companies enjoy the luxury of pushing design to the extreme, putting issues such as passenger comfort and cargo area aside. At the Los Angeles Auto Show we found a selection of new car designs that are as beautiful as they are impractical. Porsche showed up with a convertible that makes it more difficult to lower the top than in its other models. Lotus' newest car may be more accessible than its previous models, but you will still need the moves of a break-dancer to get inside. And the second generation of the Spyker C8 Aileron takes car design … Read more

Yes, I know the soundtrack to this clip is kinda annoying, but this web video is quite … Read more

24 hours of Dayton with the Porsche Panamera

Dear readers, while I am a current resident of the great state of California, I will always consider Dayton, Ohio, to be home sweet home. And while it's unfortunate that I am unable to make it home for the Thanksgiving holiday, I have this cute little Web video to remind me of the good-ol' Midwest as CarAndDriver.com takes the 2010 Porsche Panamera for a 24-hour tour of Dayton and its surrounding suburban Ohio neighbors.

The premise here is that the CarAndDriver.com guys are going to take turns driving the 2010 Porsche Panamera sport sedan all around the … Read more
