Mobile analytics firm RootMetrics this week announced a new report that provides a broad view of the mobile carrier landscape over the course of 2012.

Conducted using data from more than 2 million call, text, and data tests, the "2012 Carrier Performance in Review" report found that Verizon won out in most categories overall. While all of the big four fared well in calls and texts, data speeds and coverage pushed Verizon and AT&T over the top.

Fighting spam is a constant cat-and-mouse game and one every e-mail provider faces. I receive my fair share of spam e-mail on my iCloud e-mail account, and for the longest time have just deleted them without opening, figuring it would eventually stop.

Yahoo's Marissa Mayer will reportedly join Jawbone board

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is said to have joined the board of directors of gadget maker Jawbone. According to AllThingsD, sources familiar with the matter said that Mayer has been familiar with Jawbone for some time and has already sat in on one of the company's board meetings.

Jawbone is a San Francisco-based company has been making colorful tech gadgets for more than a decade, such as the Jambox wireless speaker and the Jawbone Up fitness bracelet that tracks users' physical activity and syncs the data to mobile devices.

Facebook purchases Parse to promote mobile app development

Facebook has agreed to purchase Parse, a service that allows developers to build mobile applications for iOS, Android, Windows, and mobile web.

The social network announced Thursday that it picked up the mobile-focused company for an undisclosed sum and said it plans to continue offering Parse's products and services. The deal is reported to be worth $85 million, according to TechCrunch.

T-Mobile's no-contract offer in hot water with Washington AG

Contrary to what T-Mobile is promising, there are actually some strings to its new wireless service plans.

That's according to Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson, who ordered T-Mobile to change its alleged "deceptive advertising" that omits charges that consumers have to pay for leaving early.

"My office identified that T-Mobile was failing to disclose a critical component of their new plan to consumers, and we acted quickly to stop this practice and protect consumers across the country from harm," Ferguson said in a statement issued on Thursday.

LG eyes flexible OLED-equipped smartphone for Q4

LG will be launching a device featuring a flexible OLED display sometime later this year.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, LG vice president of mobile, Yoon Bu-hyun, said that his company has plans to launch a smartphone with a flexible OLED screen in the fourth quarter. According to the Journal, he failed to say what other features it'll have and where it will be offered.

The man responsible for helping lead the team that built Twitter's music app has reportedly stepped down.

Consumers watch your wallets. As it gets harder for wireless operators to add new subscribers to their lucrative contract plans, their focus is turning toward getting individual subscribers to spend more each month.

T-Mobile nabs BlackBerry Q10 for business customers

T-Mobile announced today that BlackBerry Q10 registration for its business customers will begin Monday, April 29.

Though the smartphone is expected to cost about $249, the carrier stopped short of revealing official pricing information and an availability date for the device.

This news follows on the heels of T-Mobile's announcement last week that it will begin selling the HTC One.
