LG Optimus 3D 2 a second stab at the third dimension

Looks like LG is having another go at making a 3D phone. The follow-up to last year's Optimus 3D has leaked online and is set to offer another round of glasses-free three-dimensional kicks.

Pocketnow has acquired leaked images of the new phone (reportedly code-named the CX2), as well as a selection of specs. The exciting news is that the Optimus 3D 2 will reportedly be able to convert 2D material into 3D before firing it out of its 4.3-inch display, and into your eyes.

We have to admit, when we've seen 2D-to-3D conversion before (in 3D televisions, for example), it's never wound up looking particularly good. We'll reserve judgement until we've laid eyes on this phone for ourselves though.

Leak Week makes CES better (opinion)

LAS VEGAS--Will there be any news left to announce on CES 2012 Press Day?

Yes, of course there will. Tomorrow's CES lineup of press conferences is as impressive as ever: CNET will be covering 22 live events by tech headliners by my count. But at least six of them have already lost some thunder. So far, tech media has leaked news from Vizio (now with ultrabooks!), Sprint (4G Galaxy Nexus), Nokia and Windows (Nokia "Ace" 900), Nikon (leaks prompted Nikon to release D4 info early), Acer (more, more, more ultrabooks), and even the toy manufacturer Parrot got … Read more

Ad mix-up reveals Galaxy Nexus on new carrier

The Galaxy Nexus could be making its way to Sprint Nextel's upcoming 4G LTE network.

An advertisement that was accidentally published on one of CNET's Consumer Electronics Show pages showed off the Galaxy Nexus, currently only on Verizon Wireless, as a phone that will run on Sprint's 4G LTE network. To ensure no confusion with its current 4G WiMax service, the 4G LTE part of the line was highlighted.

A spokeswoman from Sprint declined to comment on the ad or the prospect of the Galaxy Nexus coming to Sprint.

But the Galaxy Nexus, or any 4G LTE … Read more

U.S. Army Pfc. Bradley Manning was dealt a significant blow yesterday after a government investigator at a hearing revealed that a computer Manning used had diplomatic cables and other sensitive information on it.

According to the Associated Press, which first reported on testimony that digital-crimes investigator David Shaver gave in Manning's case, one of Manning's work computers had over 10,000 diplomatic cables, as well as video of a widely publicized 2007 helicopter attack in Iraq. Shaver's testimony follows U.S. government claims that Manning was accessing classified information and giving it to WikiLeaks founder Julian … Read more

Rumor: Apple delays iOS 5.0.2 update to conquer memory leaks

Last week, German tech site macerkopf.de stated that sources close to the development of iOS 5.0.2 claimed the update was coming this week to address battery performance issues that have been plaguing several iPhone 4S users since its release. Today, the site claims that the update will be delayed because of memory leaks in the code.

The most scandalous reports about the iPhone 4S thus far have been the battery performance issues, a problem that even Apple admitted, which it is not one to do very often.

The current version of iOS (5.0.1) was supposed … Read more

Court: WikiLeaks' Assange to be extradited

WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange has lost his bid to avoid extradition to Sweden to face questioning over allegations of sexual assault.

On Wednesday, the High Court in London said the 40-year-old Australian must comply with an extradition ruling made by chief magistrate Howard Riddle in February. Assange has been living in the U.K. under bail while his appeal was heard.

Assange's lawyers argued that the WikiLeaks editor would not be able to get a fair hearing in Sweden and that the Swedish prosecutor making the extradition request is not qualified to issue the European Arrest Warrant served on … Read more
