Shine a light on your wine collection

It can be difficult to collect wine. It's not necessarily the entry price or the learning curve, as there are numerous varietals that are attractively priced, and a plethora of written advice is always only a few clicks away. No, what makes collecting wine difficult as opposed to baseball cards or classic cars is that wine is consumed. However, sometimes a collection need only be a few bottles strong.

The Cuisinart 8-Bottle Wine Cellar is a perfect solution for oenophiles who frequently "update" their collection. Holding either 750 milliliter or 1,500 milliliter bottles, the wine fridge … Read more

Keep your movie inventory in order

If you have trouble keeping track of all your movies--whether on DVD or on your hard drive--this easy-to-master app will help save the day.

MovieManager launches a nicely sized window divided into three panes. The design is slightly different from the typically familiar e-mail client, and although not a lot of design panache is apparent, the look is functional and clear to understand. A short menu bar and only a few buttons on the toolbar make the app seem simplistic, but the bells and whistles are there and are essential, not over the top. One pane allows the user to … Read more

Clunky sports card database

Sports Card Organizer Deluxe is a database program that allows users to keep track of the contents of their sports card collections. Although the program works fine, there are likely more sophisticated options to accomplish this task.

The program's interface looks very dated and is reminiscent of Windows 95. Not surprisingly, it's not particularly intuitive, and in general its layout feels somewhat cluttered and clunky. To its credit, the program does open with a brief explanation of its features, allowing users to get started without too much trouble. The program offers three different database templates for users to … Read more
