Samsung expects big things from even bigger Galaxy Note 2

Samsung is expecting pretty big things out of its next major release, the Galaxy Note 2.

Indeed, even after the 30 million Galaxy S3s and millions of iPhone 5 sales, Samsung believes it could still move 20 million units of its 5.5-inch Galaxy Note II. Speaking with reporters recently, Samsung head J.K. Shin advised that the Galaxy Note II could sell "three times faster" than the first iteration over its first few months.

To ensure the handset is a success, Samsung has partnered with no less than 260 wireless providers across 128 markets. Starting with today'… Read more

Data speeds: iPhone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. iPhone 4S

Though its thinner profile and longer screen are two of the iPhone 5's top draws, I'm more interested in what's inside Apple's newest handset. Yes, after a long wait, the iPhone 5 finally adds support for 4G LTE data networks. Of course, I have to point out that a galaxy of Android phones (get it!) have long offered the feature, but that doesn't mean I'm not grateful that at long last the iPhone has caught up.

The best iPhone 5 alternatives

Apple's latest iPhone 5 is certainly off to a big start, with preorders already backed up for weeks. If you're the type who'd rather not wait so long for a new smartphone, though, or who avoids Apple products like the plague, there are plenty of other options out there. In fact, many competing devices offer just as much speed, a bigger screen, and a wider selection of features than Apple's newest creation. … Read more

Choosing an iPhone 5 carrier

Now that CNET's verdict is in about the iPhone 5 and preorders are through the roof, you might want to consider how important a carrier is in terms of overall user experience, if you're even remotely eyeing the device for yourself.

While Cricket Wireless and the regional carrier, C Spire, will offer the iPhone 5 starting September 28, it'll be sold under the major carriers -- AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint -- starting September 21. Each of these three networks have different plans, prices, and bundles, with Sprint being the only one with a full unlimited … Read more

Move over Samsung and LG, there's new evidence that HTC may be readying a "phablet" of its own for Verizon.

Before going any further, I have to address the handset's name, which is reported to be DIx, which is short for Droid Incredible X. That makes … Read more
