No new devices, but RIM talks up its virtual BlackBerry keypad

ORLANDO, Fla. -- BlackBerry maker Research In Motion officially took the wraps off its new BlackBerry 10 software here at the company's annual meeting with customers, developers, and press. BlackBerry 10 devices set for August unveiling?

Those waiting for BlackBerry 10 will need to hold on for a few more months, according to a new report.

BlackBerry-focused blog N4BB reported, citing a source, that Research In Motion (RIM) plans to unveil its first BlackBerry 10 device in August. The company will then release the handset toward the beginning of October. Previous reports suggested RIM might launch its first BlackBerry 10 handset in September.

RIM looking to JPMorgan for life support, report says

Research In Motion CEO Thorsten Heins has decided he needs some outside input on the company's strategy, according to a new report.

The BlackBerry maker is currently nearing a decision to pick a financial adviser that will help it make strategic decisions, according to Bloomberg, citing sources. JPMorgan Chase is the front-runner in RIM's list of choices, and could be named its adviser within the next couple of days, the news agency is reporting.

RIM's Balsillie had radical plan to save company, report says

Research In Motion has decided to double down on its devices and the upcoming BlackBerry 10. But according to a new report, its former co-CEO and co-chairman had other ideas before he left the company in January.

According to Reuters, citing sources, Jim Balsillie held talks with North American and European carriers prior to his departure from RIM, offering them access to his company's proprietary network. If they had inked a deal, the carriers would have been allowed to route traffic from non-RIM smartphones through the BlackBerry maker's network for a fee. RIM's government market share said to be on the rise

Well, at least one part of Research In Motion's business is on the rise.

Speaking to Bloomberg in an interview published today, Scott Totzke, RIM's senior vice president of BlackBerry Security, said that his company's revenue on sales to the federal government "on whole is up."

"The employee base is shrinking, so if we're looking at a market with fewer employees and our install base is stable to slightly up, that would seem to indicate that we have an increasing market share," Totzke said.

RIM results look bleak on fourth-quarter loss

Wall Street expected Research In Motion to report weak results, and the beleaguered smartphone vendor didn't disappoint.

The Canadian company today reported a fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $125 million, or 24 cents a share, reversing a year-earlier profit of $934 million, or $1.74 a share. Excluding one-time items, the company reported an adjusted profit of $418 million, or 80 cents a share.

Revenue fell by 25 percent to $4.2 billion.

Leaked BlackBerry 10 images show 'live tiles,' other changes

BlackBerry 10 has been missing in action for months, but some images have now leaked on the Web purporting to show the operating system in action.

The blog Crackberry last night posted BlackBerry 10 images it claims to have obtained from a 14-page PDF file prepared by "one of RIM's external ad agency partners."
