Toasters have always been a focus of attention in the kitchen. In fact, they seem to symbolize it more than any other appliance. Sure, the refrigerator or oven might seem like more obvious choices, but in the end it's the toaster that best represents the warmth of the kitchen.
But don't take my word for it. Toasters come in endless shapes and sizes. From a toaster with a built-in egg poacher, to a toaster stuck on the side of a microwave, there really doesn't seem to be any end to toaster combinations (or apparently, movie tie-ins; I'… Read more
My mornings are based on routine. I'm not sure if it's the repetition of familiar movements or the cold coffee waiting for me in the kitchen that drives me through those first few waking moments. Either way, after I've had my coffee, I am awake enough to figure out how to make more coffee... and then it comes to breakfast.
Breakfast is my first true decision of the day. Everything else up to this point is robotic motion practiced into familiarity. Variety is the spice of life, so after my day has been kick started, I want … Read more
Here's a toaster that could pass as a conversation piece at your next poker game: this long-slot toaster from Siemens was designed by Porsche Design, a shootoff company of the automotive industry leader that specializes in consumer and home products with a focus on cutting-edge design. Sure, it'll toast your bread, but it'll also look really good doing it.
The toaster has an LCD display that shows how brown your bread has gotten, and you can choose from 11 cooking levels. The toaster even has a memory function, which will remember the setting you used the last … Read more
We love toast. And by we, I mean you. Everybody loves toast. Even if you say you don't love toast...you still do. It's a fact, an irrefutable fact. What's that you say? Don't put words in your mouth? Or toast either? You really don't love toast that much? It's just all right you say? Well, I have proof that you love toast.
Here we have the PC Toaster Bay from CrazyPC. (What's so crazy about it?) It fits into a standard 5.25-inch drive bay and makes, well, toast--toast from the comfort … Read more
Just can't let go of that old-timey stand-up toaster? Do you have a love for grilled cheese sandwiches? (Who doesn't?) Well, if you refuse to get yourself a toaster oven or a panini press, then this product is for you.
Toastabags are little bags for your toaster. Yes, you read that correctly. Little bags for your toaster. Apparently what you do is pile up all the ingredients you want between two slices of bread and jam it down into your toaster. How this possibly cannot be a fire hazard is completely beyond me, but so be it.
However, … Read more
Yes it looks like a Bingo (or Keno) contraption. No it won't win you money. Gambling capabilities aside, Patentee is being touted as the world's first rotary toaster. And who am I to argue? I don't recall ever seeing this idea come to market before. And who would come up with such an idea? Think bread. Think baguette. Think croissant. Think Le French.
The point of origin should not really be too surprising. Le grille-pain four (that would be the toaster oven) would make an ideal toasting device for all sorts of delicious breads. Baguettes, seen in … Read more
I've had hot dogs on the brain all week. Yesterday, I posted about a Kwik-E-Mart style rotisserie griller available for home use and the day before I was all about a hot dog vending machine. Maybe it's because it's All-Star week, or because July is the official high tide of hot doggery. The Fourth of July weekend is the big hot dog day with an estimated 155 million dogs devoured. Whatever the reason for my hot dog affliction, there's no reason to stop celebrating as it is National Hot Dog Month after all.

Pity the poor toaster. Like a single person surrounded by married couples, it seems destined to be fixed up again and again, with the promise that this coupling will be the match that lasts.
The latest pairing to come to my attention: a Breakfast Set from Team Appliances, which combines a two-slot toaster with a five-cup drip coffee maker. All the expected features are here, from a removable crumb tray and adjustable darkness settings on the toaster to a reusable filter and automatic shut off on the coffee maker. What's missing? A timer to start your coffee brewing before … Read more
I have a secret defense when it comes to toast: I like mine just a little less crunchy than my husband does. There's no way to toast it just "a bit more," which means that, if I've walked away from the toaster, my breakfast will still be there when I get back.
But Breville has made a toaster that makes every aspect of toasting bread just a little bit easier. The Die-Cast 4-Slice Smart Toaster even has "a bit more" function that allows a user to pop a slice back in for just a … Read more
