Motorola Electrify M bring more LTE to U.S. Cellular

U.S. Cellular today announced its next 4G LTE smartphone, the Android-based Motorola Electrify M. It will join the lineup in the coming days.

Powered by 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the handset goes on sale on the carrier's Web site on November 8 and in retail stores the following day. It's the third handset in the carrier's Electrify line after the original Electrify and the Electrify 2.

Motorola withdraws some infringement charges from Xbox case

Microsoft will have fewer patents to contend with in its fight against Google-owned Motorola Mobility.

Motorola earlier this week filed a motion with the International Trade Commission asking that patent-infringement claims it has brought against Microsoft related to Wi-Fi be removed from consideration in their ongoing legal battle. Motorola didn't provide a concrete reason on why it decided against arguing its case.

Motorola results stink, continue to weigh on Google

Motorola Mobility continued its slide under Google, posting a wider loss amid a decline in sales in the third quarter.

The business is in full turnaround mode under CEO and ex-Googler Dennis Woodside, but for now, the results are ugly. The unit posted an operating loss of $527 million, with the vast majority of that loss coming from its embattled handset division. A year ago, the unit posted an operating loss of $41 million.

Excluding one-time items, Motorola posted an operating loss of $151 million.

Microsoft looks to roll Google into German patent suit

Microsoft plans to expand an infringement case against Motorola Mobility to none other than Google, the smartphone maker's parent company.

Speaking yesterday in the Munich I Regional Court, Microsoft's lead counsel, Tilman Mueller-Stoy, told the court that the software giant will amend an earlier lawsuit against Motorola to include Google, marking the first time the two technology giants have gone after each other in a patent infringement case.

The wait for Motorola's new Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD phones will soon be over. Verizon officially confirmed that Moto's fresh devices will hit store shelves on October 18.

SpaceX rocket engine shut down at launch

Although it appeared to be a flawless launch, there was a problem with one of the engines of the SpaceX Falcon 9. About a minute after takeoff, one of the engines detected a drop in pressure and shut down. Video posted on YouTube shows debris falling off in what some have called an explosion. The Motorola and Intel collaboration that is the Razr i is now available for purchase in Brazil. Priced at $1,299 reals (roughly $640), the Intel-based device runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a 4.3-inch 540x960-pixel qHD Super AMOLED display, 1GB RAM, and an 8-megapixel camera.
