As it usually does, Apple got the tech world excited this week when it introduced its new iPhone 5.

The magically, magnificent device will be an experience like no other and will provide consumers a 4-inch display and 4G LTE connectivity. In other words, stuff that Android phones have enjoyed for the better part of two years. That is, of course, unless you get a Sprint or Verizon iPhone 5 and want to use simultaneous voice and data.

It's official: AT&T will offer the LG Escape on Sept. 16

Amid brief speculation this morning, AT&T announced that it will indeed carry the entry-level Android 4.0 smartphone known as the LG Escape.

The Escape houses a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, a 4.3-inch qHD IPS touch-screen display, and NFC capabilities. It will also include QuickMemo, LG's note-taking and drawing feature seen in devices like the LG Optimus Vu and the Optimus 4X HD.

On the back of the handset you'll find a 5-megapixel camera, which offers goodies like continuous and panoramic shooting. It can also record 1080p HD video.

AT&T to soon offer entry-level LG Escape?

AT&T is preparing to offer an "entry-level" Android 4.0 experience in the form of the LG Escape, according to recent internet chatter.

Also possibly known as model number of P870, the LG smartphone will run Android Ice Cream Sandwich and feature a 4.3-inch (960x540-pixel) display, a dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, a 5-megapixel camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The device is expected to carry a 2,150mAh battery and 1GB RAM.

LG Splendor touches down on U.S. Cellular for $79.99

Today, LG and U.S. Cellular launched the LG Splendor, another Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich handset.

The Splendor, which comes in at a very reasonable $79.99 (with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate), features a 4.3-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera, and a VGA front-facing camera for video chats.

Samsung files injunction against LG for leaks, report says

Samsung has filed an injunction against LG, its main rival in the television and display technology sector, over technology leaks, the Yonhap News Agency reports.

Samsung Mobile Display, an subsidiary affiliate of Samsung, submitted documents to the Seoul Central District Court against LG Display, about 18 "confidential technologies" for OLED screens and 21 other details, the news agency reports. 

The court documents seek compensation of 1 billion won ($880,500) where each leak was passed on to a third party or where LG used the technologies, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The ginormous 5-inch LG Intuition arrives on Verizon

Looks like the rumors were true.

Verizon's version of the unlocked LG Optimus Vu, renamed the LG Intuition, will be available online to U.S. customers starting September 6. It will be offered in Verizon retail stores starting September 10 for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

The Intuition sports a gigantic 5-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and 650 nits of brightness.

Smart TV Alliance welcomes new members

The Smart TV Alliance today announced a handful of new members have joined the organisation.

The alliance aims to bring together players in the smart TV electronics industry to create a common approach to tech, in order to help developers build apps that can run on any smart TV set, regardless of platform. LG Electronics and TP Vision founded the organization, and Toshiba joined shortly after the alliance's launch in June.

LG took the wraps off the latest addition to its L-Series line of smartphones this evening.

Featuring Android 4.0 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich), the Optimus L9 will sport a 1GHz dual-core processor and 4.7-inch IPS display. The 9.1-millimeter-thick L9 will also feature a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a high-density 2150 mAH SiO+ battery.
