Analyst says Apple has a hardware fix for iPhone 4

Is an iPhone 4 antenna fix beyond the bumper in the works? One analyst says there is.

In a note sent out Thursday morning, Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, said the long-term fix is mechanical. "Our supply chain checks reveal that Apple has instituted a design fix for the iPhone 4 that more adequately insulates the transceiver module," he wrote in the note.

How, or when, Apple would implement a fix for existing iPhone 4 owners, however, is unclear.

Ever since the iPhone 4 was released on June 24, some iPhone owners have complained that … Read more

Boy fixes cracked iPhone screen for $21.95

It used to be that parents would encourage their kids to do arts and crafts projects. Now they're making them fix their cracked iPhone screens.

Just ask Brett, who you last saw building his own iPad stand for $12.40. He's my 10-year-old nephew, and his father put him to work recently to fix his cracked iPhone 3GS screen, which was apparently caused by an encounter with a set of keys. To be clear, the cracked portion you're looking at--see photos below--is only the protective layer of glass that sits on top of the LCD, not the … Read more

Microsoft adds repair shop to Windows

Microsoft is testing a new "Fix it Center"--an online and PC-based tool for helping users solve their Windows technical problems.

While a fair amount of diagnostics are built into Windows 7, the free Fix it Center aims to expand on these and also bring similar capabilities to Windows XP and Windows Vista.

The service, which went into beta on Thursday, consists of both a Windows download and an online service.

"Fix it Center finds and fixes many common PC and device problems automatically," Microsoft said on its Web site. "It also helps prevent new … Read more

PS3 console errors fixed, leap year bug to blame

Reports are still scattered, but after testing our own PS3, it appears the global 8001050F error that left most non-Slim PS3 consoles essentially unplayable seems to be fixed. We're guessing this issue was corrected on the server side of things, as there was no update or download required; our console just worked.

Even better, all trophy and game save data remains intact, so worries about corrupted information can be put to rest.

We still don't have an official word from Sony, but it looks like the worst is behind us. That said, we'd still recommend waiting for … Read more
