Apple stays on top in U.S. smartphone market, study says

When it comes to smartphones in the U.S., Apple remains on top, a new study from ComScore says.

During the three months ended in February, Apple held onto its title as the No. 1 smartphone vendor in the U.S. the market tracker said. The Cupertino, Calif., company controlled 39 percent of the market, up 3.9 percentage points from the three months ended in November. Samsung, in the No. 2 spot, held 21 percent of the market, up 1 percent point.

AT&T and Sprint Nextel said that the HTC One will hit stores on April 19 starting at $199.99 and a two-year contract.

Eager fans can pre-order the phone at AT&T on April 4, and on Sprint a day later.

After plenty of hype and a short delay, the flagship HTC One finally looks ready to come to at least one carrier. The 32-gigabyte version will cost $199.99, while the 64GB version, which is exclusive to AT&T, will sell for $299.99 and a two-year contract.

HTC to launch follow-up to Droid DNA, says marketing chief

A successor to HTC's Droid DNA phone is in the works, says HTC Chief Marketing Officer Ben Ho.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Ho said that HTC would soon launch a second-generation Butterfly to take advantage of consumer appetite for large-screen smartphones, the Focus Taiwan news site reported.

The current 5-inch model is known as the Droid DNA in the U.S., but flies by the name of Butterfly in Taiwan and elsewhere.

Bringing phones to T-Mobile's LTE network: The devil's in the details

Today, T-Mobile hyped how much easier bringing phones to its new network will be. As it turns out, however, it isn't as simple as you'd think.

Here's the deal. T-Mobile is in the middle of three major wireless transitions. Besides ripping up mandatory two-year contracts, the carrier is building a new 4G LTE network. If that wasn't enough, T-Mobile also is migrating its older 3.5G data service from the AWS band (1700/2100) where it currently lives over to the 1,900MHz GSM band.

HTC reportedly working on Windows Phone 'Tiara'

HTC could be working on a new Windows Phone 8 device code-named the HTC Tiara, according to Unwired View.

The midrange handset might feature a 4.3-inch Super LCD screen with WVGA resolution (800x480 pixels), a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and an 8-megapixel camera.

Leaked specs also point to an 1,800mAh battery, a 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera, 8GB internal memory, and 1GB of RAM.

The HTC Tiara could surface in the middle of May.
