Calling all cars: Police car retrospective

Last week Ford announced its new Police Interceptor model, which is based on the new Taurus and is replacing the outgoing Crown Victoria model. Police have always been at the forefront of automotive technology, incorporating telecommunications gear and computers long before similar devices found their way into civilian cars. Motorola sold the first two-way radio for police cars in 1940, and it wasn't until the '60s that Citizens' Band radio came … Read more

Well, the 2010 SEMA Show is long over, but the members of the Specialty Equipment Market Association are still at work doing whatever else they do when they're not putting together banging car shows.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro leads the charge as the most accessory-friendly car, earning its position with its reasonable sticker price, which should leave plenty of cash in your pocket for the many styling accessories for the retro futuristic body and performance accessories for its mod-friendly LS-series V-8 engine.

Modified rides at the LA Auto Show

It was no SEMA Show, but the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show featured its fair share of rides that had spent time under the knife to become something more than stock.

From race-prepped Fiestas and Mazda2s to a pair of crazy Scions that take tailgating to a new level, modifications at the LA Show took all shapes and forms. Suzuki brought out two examples of its new Kizashi sedan modified by Rockford-Fosgate and Road Race Engineering to deliver great sound and great performance.

Meanwhile, SMS Supercars showed us the meaning of "exotic muscle" with a pair of SMS … Read more

Tuners embrace Hyundai Genesis at SEMA

If that's not enough to convince your that Hyundai's got a hit on its hands, we're not sure what will.

Among Hyundai's offerings were the wild midengine V-8 RM460 Genesis Coupe and the mild Hennessey Tuning School Coupe. Also in the … Read more

Honda S2000 Coupe mod

We caught sight of this car while out on a photo shoot. Some of it is a Honda S2000, normally a roadster but modified into coupe form. A little Web research told us that this body mod is from Mooncraft, a Japanese design firm long involved in motorsports. Many Web sites refer to the Mooncraft hardtop for the S2000 as "infamous," but it apparently increases the car's acceleration times due to its aerodynamics.

Suppose you wanted to pick up a convertible Chevrolet Camaro. You could wait patiently until the rumored 2012 release date. You could hope against hope that GM actually decides to release the darn thing. However, if you've got an extra 18 grand burning a hole in your pocket, you could see the folks at Drop Top Customs about making one for yourself, right now.

That $18,000 dollar price tag doesn't include the cost of the donor car, so expect to add between $22K and $33K, depending on how much topless muscle you're looking for.
