The latest gossip, which was obtained by Engadget, suggests that the initial release won't be directly from Verizon Wireless, but through retail outlet Costco.
According to a leaked document, the Ice Cream Sandwich-powered smartphone will be on sale come December 15 with a two-year service agreement and a price of $289.99. This is not the first time we've seen … Read more
If you thought Verizon Wireless was going to slow down on the high-end Android smartphones, you'd be wrong.
Based on recently leaked information, soon we should see an LG phone with 4G LTE connectivity and an HD display. Expected to be called the LG Spectrum, the smartphone should be the heir apparent to the Revolution which launched in mid-2011.
Rumored hardware details for the LG Spectrum match up quite nicely with the recently announced Optimus LTE and Nitro HD (AT&T). Specifications include a 1,280x720-pixel HD display, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and support for 4G … Read more
The first Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc turned heads with its fashionable design, razor-thin good looks, and Android Gingerbread software. Now Sony Ericsson has launched a flashier replacement, but oh, what a difference a few months make. Despite a faster processor and two exciting new color options, it's even tougher to make an argument for splurging on the unlocked $439.99 Xperia Arc S.
That said, this luxury European handset has plenty going for it. Besides its slim and attractive design, the Arc S boasts a powerful camera, and records 720p HD video. It also comes in four delicious colors: Gloss Black, Sakura Pink, Pure White, and Misty Silver. Find out if this posh communicator from overseas has styling provocative enough for your fashion-forward tastes.
The wait for 4G in your neighborhood can be interminable, especially if you're an AT&T customer.
Compared with Verizon's extensive LTE network, America's second largest carrier has limped along with just 15 cities covered by the end of last month. But tonight, just days CNET's Roger Cheng detected 4G service in New York City, AT&T users are noticing the same thing in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Verizon Communications considered buying Hulu when the streaming-video site was shopping itself around to potential acquirers earlier this year.
Hulu was just one of the online video options Verizon looked at, CEO Lowell McAdam said at a UBS investor conference today in New York.
"We continue to look at alternatives," he said during a one-on-one discussion onstage, which was Webcast.
Verizon was among many potential suitors looking at Hulu when it was seeking a buyer this summer. Hulu ultimately did not find a partner.
That Verizon looked at Hulu, which streams television shows and movies, underscores the growing … Read more
Just as CNET reported last week, Verizon Wireless has officially announced a pair of new 4G LTE Android tablets for release in December.
Carrying the name of Droid Xyboard, the two devices are successors to the Motorola Xoom released earlier in the year. Specifications include dual-core 1.2Ghz processors, 1GM RAM, a 5-megapixel main camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The smaller, 8.2-inch media-centric model comes with two capacity options, 16GB for $429.99 and 32GB for $529.99. The 10.1-inch edition is available in three storage sizes, 16GB ($529.99), 32GB ($629.99), and 64GB ($729.99). … Read more
Verizon Wireless denied claims that it was blocking the Google Wallet mobile payment application on the upcoming Galaxy Nexus.
"Recent reports that Verizon is blocking Google Wallet on our devices are false," the company said in a statement today. "Verizon does not block applications."
Google Wallet, unlike other applications, needs to be integrated into a secure part of the phone that is proprietary to Verizon, the carrier said. As a result, Verizon and Google are still in commercial talks over the issue.
The issue is a rare instance in which Verizon and Google haven't been … Read more
Verizon's Galaxy Nexus is expected to launch in the coming weeks without Google Wallet, at the carrier's request.
The phone, which was developed by Samsung in partnership with Google, will debut with the Web giant's mobile payments system disabled by Verizon's choice, a Google spokesman told CNET, confirming a story first reported by Computerworld.
"Verizon asked us not to include this functionality in the product," a Google representative told CNET.
It's unknown whether that omission is related to Isis, a partnership Verizon Wireless formed with AT&T and T-Mobile USA in an … Read more
Your Android-based smartphone could be watching just about everything you do, Android security researcher Trevor Eckhart argues in a video posted earlier this week.
In the nearly 20-minute video clip, Eckhart shows how software developed by mobile-device tracker Carrier IQ logs each keystroke and then sends them off to locations unknown. In addition, when Eckhart tried placing a call, Carrier IQ's software recorded each number before the call was even made.
Eckhart started making waves across the privacy community earlier this month after he dug into software developed by Carrier IQ that, he said, runs behind the scenes in … Read more
